LC - could she give you a referral? Even though she was not your fit, perhaps she has some info on others who might be.
I have interviewed over 30 before settling (for the most part) on the two I see now.

Here's something to refute your claims
http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/...therapy-client a quote from blog "Apparently, therapists aren't looking for YAVIS. We want clients who invest in the process and share the traits we highly value: motivation, openness and introspection." |

That concept is so out dated... Lola, keep looking, you will find the right t!!

I wasn't starting an argument I just wanted to point out the other side. Now you've mentioned insurance which something I don't understand. There are other therapists.

Have you looked again on the psych today website now that you are in the big D/FW area? The ones I saw on there gave fairly accurate descriptions of their type of practice, in my experience. I also used Therapy Tribe.
But, in the I am an alien thing, I sort of enjoyed visiting a lot of them and seeing how different and similar they were to each other.

NO NO , I don't want YOU to think I am trying to start an argument, Im trigger shy lately. As for the insurance thing, some insurance companies in the states require the T to give a number of expected sessions, details on what the issue is etc. They may even require a diagnosis and give only 10 sessions for improvement. Some even require a pre authorization of number of sessions based on diagnosis. My insurance does not work that way, so its a non issue.

I thought I got accurate good or bad feeling about them from their descriptions/web pages. But remember I tried a lot. A few were complete busts. I went to one who was strictly a psychoanalyst - with the couch and everything in a room with nothing but the couch and her chair - nothing on the walls, no color etc. It would have been great except for that weird lying on couch thing which I refused to do. But I did not realize that was her approach from her web page. Still it was interesting to see. But for most I found how they listed themselves was not entirely off. I was amazed to see how many had stuffed animals when their practice was only adults. I crossed them off quickly.

I spoke to most on the phone for about 10-15 minutes before deciding to actually make an appointment.
I just looked up fort worth on the psych today page - I immediately crossed off all men and the ones who mentioned their faith, sand trays, and evolution into higher levels of consciousness. And I would cross off twice the one who started her blurb with "My ideal client is one who..." But there were two who talked about childhood patterns and such. So for me - I would call and talk to and possibly make an appointment with those two while continuing to check out others. But that is just my approach.
