MKAC, I would love suggestions and honesty. If I'm overreacting by being scared of this guy, then I want to know that to.

The case that stopdog pointed out says essentially that you must articulate a race neutral reason for the use of your peremptory strikes.

Do you mind if I ask what you do for a living? I'm just curious and can't remember if you've ever said.

(little law school humor there)
Exams are going on in my world and the students are bonking off the walls.

Since we are being curious...I'm interested in your age RTerroni?

Not that it matters but for some reason I like to imagine people... So I'm guessing 32?

I'm 46 btw... Just so you have equal access to the same info...if it's too personal my apologies

Jerz, I'm not sure you're overreacting or not. You have a chance to observe the guy and none of us do. I would start by documenting everything he has done so far. Put it in writing with dates, as closely as you can remember. Continue documenting from this point forward, especially if you feel he is in danger of blowing a gasket. Make sure the HOA knows about his harassing behavior. Install a security camera by your door, in an obvious, clearly visible place [even if it's a fake].

Those are the things I would start with.
Thanks for this!

The whole point of PEREMPTORY strikes is that you don't have to articulate a reason.

I was struck peremptorily and no reason at all was given.
"Thank you. You may go."

Now that's an interesting reaction to exam time.... or maybe "bonking" doesn't mean the same thing for you as it does for me

The burden shifts but in fact there are legitimate reasons the jury can made up of all of one race.

It is a different meaning in my context.

CE -- Based on the photos I've seen of you, you 'look' white (please forgive me if I'm guessing wrong). In the US, you only have to state the race neutral reason if the person being struck is considered to be in a minority class. Originally, you're right that the point of the peremptory strikes was that you didn't need a reason. It could be as basic as just wanting to strike the person because you got a bad vibe from him or her. Batson changed that.
Thanks for this!

I assumed as much. It was an attempt at humour, of the linguistic ilk.
