Yes, we are running out of space, too.... but I can't stop buying books! (Nor can H.) Books give me a tremendous sense of security.

I haven't read that much fantasy apart from Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings (+ The Hobbit) and A Song of Ice and Fire. If you could choose three fantasy books to recommend to me, which ones would you choose?
(I'd classify some of Astrid Lindgren's books, and certainly the Moomin books, as fantasy, but that's by the by.) Hmmmmm. Three? Guy Gavriel Kay's Tigana, Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself (which is the first in a trilogy), and maybe The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. One author who is often mentioned as somebody to try if you like George RR Martin is Patrick Rothfuss, but I haven't read anything by him yet.

Well, I guess I'm one of the other three people then. I haven't read Stieg Larsson either. I've been thinking about buying the Millennium Trilogy for a while but I always manage to buy other books instead. Most of the books I read are in English as well. Probably about 90 %, if not more. I pretty much only read Swedish books in Swedish (which I don't do very often). If the book is originally written in English then I really want to read it in English. If it's in Russian or some other language I can't speak then I might read it in English or in Swedish, though mostly in English.
Ditto. I don't read English books in translation, at all - I do slightly prefer Swedish-language translations of books written in languages I can't read, but sometimes I read them in English. I keep meaning to read books in German to brush up my German... so many books, so little time.
Thanks for this!

Me neither. I've bought a lot of books lately. I almost feel bad for spending so much money on it but I love books so yeah. What do you mean when you say that books give you a sense of security?

Thanks. I might check them out later if I remember.

EDIT: How'd the lecture go?

Can I just say that not really having a therapist is difficult? Well, I said it.

I couldn't agree more, in fact I think that the few months that I recently had without a Therapist were very difficult for me.

Feeling a little upset (and torn) after having to confront a friend of mine but I feel like it was something I needed to do.

I am once again feeling so lucky to have the T that I do. I emailed him this morning telling him that I couldn't come in during my normal appointment time this week because my daughter has her MRI scheduled for that time. He emailed me back gave me two times I could come in. So, I got in today and I got to tell him all that was going on. He was great at listening, and encouraging me. He told me I could feel free to text message him whenever I needed, and to let him know what the results of all of her tests are. It felt good to have that support.

I think I posted this before. If so, forgive me.

"Bibliotaph" by Michael McFee in the current issue of The New Republic

Bury me with my books.
Slip one under my head:
a satin pillow's much too soft
for such a rigid bed.

Bury me with my books.
Open some on my chest,
their pages shadowing the heart
beginning its long rest.

Bury me with my books,
tossed in until the hole
is filled with words instead of dirt
and I am like a mole

happy to stay hidden,
not needing light to see
that paper heaven made by hands,
the books that buried me.

My favorite Sutherland movie. Anybody recognize the movie quote?

Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves.

My daughter and I both LOVE books...my daughter is addicted though haha. In the past 2 1/2 or 3 weeks we purchased approximately 40 books for her in 3 shopping trips. Fortunately all were second hand. 2 trips to Goodwill. On the second trip another shopper saw her juggling to hold onto her stack of books and offered her a cart. He then told her that a local library was having a huge book sale. She puraches 16 there..but couldn't say no to shakespear books for .50 and hard cover books for $2... She knows I can't say not to books..she tells me it is better than other addictions she could have... Hubby is planning to build a whole wall floor to ceiling in our house that is just book shelves....

My Mom is back in the hospital. Pneumonia, Co2 levels too high. Very desperate situation yesterday, now she seems stable. Remember her in your thoughts, if you will.

I'm so glad you have this kind of support from your T. I know how important it is when our kids have medical issues. You are in my thoughts.

I once overheard my son (age 5 or so) telling his little sister (3) that if she really wanted something while we were at the store, to ask for a book. He informed her that I never say "NO" to books. LOL. It was true too. I tried to think of one time I had said no to getting him a book he wanted and couldn't think of a single time.

Thanks MKAC. And for the record, I stole the quote about a book is a present you can open again and again. It's a t-shirt quote my Mom gave me. She is a retired librarian.
