It looks like its gonna rain here for the first half of t's vacation, and be nice weather for the 2nd half, so i thought i would let that guide my activities. First half (of 12 days) i will get this place straightened out; 2nd half i will enjoy it and basically start living my life. Two threads should do it

I have been VERY good at my diet since June 1st. I ate candy once, this past monday, and that was IT. And i told t about it. So the point is, i dont want his vacation to get me off track Of that. We talked about it before he left. so just writing here to stay accountable, keep tabs on my progress, whatever.

Are you good at cleaning up/getting organized? (That's what you meant by "get this place straightened out" right?) I'm absolutely awful at it. I would love if you told us what you did in little steps. I'll be all inspired! Maybe start straightening out my place too...
Thanks for this!

Hi hankster,

Way to go on the candy! I am trying not to eat candy and eat better...but I love candy so it's pretty painful. Have you been substituting it with anything? I have been eating blueberries, green apples, and oranges, and that is helping...some. I am getting much better, but it's been a slow process!

Awesome plan Hankster! I could use the inspiration: sometimes I'm pretty good at making plans, but I wanna keep them better. Probably because I get wayyyyyyyyyyyy too ambitious, lol, but good for you and keep posting!

Things are either impeccable or a high holy mess. I think i got one gene from each parent! But this is a good idea. Im trying not to make detailed to-do lists because i dont want to be failing.

Just eating healthy, not ordering out, not buying binge food. Telling myself i just dont want to feel the way i do when i eat too much carbs and or fat. As I told t, i was kind of eating what i wanted, but i wasnt eating what i REALLY wanted. Everytime i ordered pizza delivery, i was like, i could have steaks for this money, what is wrong with me?! So now i'm having chicken. Instead of ice cream, i get watermelon and feta cheese.

I am no good at lists, but I tend to get paired up with people who are. I drive them crazy.
It sounds like you are doing well.
And I like watermelon more than almost anything.

Frozen natural fruit bars are a good substitute for sweets. I always keep a box of cereal on hand too in case I get sugar cravings, since even the low-sugar ones seem to taste sweet enough... But no substitution will work when the saboteur comes around!!

I was thinking more along the lines of a post-hoc list. It won't be intimidating or setting you up for failure because you've already done it...

You know what's kind of candyish? Frozen mango chunks. Dried cherries are delicious if you're trying to be eat more wholesome stuff but I think are not really good if you're going for weight loss. I also eat too much candy. But my efforts to it down are pretty half-hearted!
Thanks for this!

Well i had made some fresh strawberry frozen greek yogurt over the weekend, and saw that i was overeating it, and i really havent been overeating (ie eating more than one serving) of anything this month, and everybody always talks about diet cheat days, so i just went ahead and bought some chocolate caramels. About 500 calories worth. I did NOT buy fiber one bars - no pretending this stuff is good for me. Just plain candy. It was good, then it was over.

Day 1 - i did food prep. Made watermelon balls, made arugula and chickpea pesto, cut up celery. Is that all?? It feels like i spent all day in the kitchen. I also had to wash the 8 tiny half cup ice cream containers from the weekend! Oh, and washed blueberries.

Day 2 (1st Thursday) plans - finish food prep, then wash kitchen and bathroom floors?

My sympathies on the t vac!!

Cereal is a binge food for me. If a box lasts til the next morning, its a miracle! And i WILL eat the whole box of popsicles or fudgsicles. Sigh. There IS a reason i look like this But im better as long as i stay away from the high fructose corn syrup, and salty food. That stuff will do me in. Most bread, its the salt that keeps it jumping into my mouth.

Day 2, altho its not over yet. I wanted to text t and tell him how good im doing, but that usually jinxes things.

As for chores, wow i havent gotten this much done in two days since i dont remember when. I organized my teas, my kitchen wrapping paper, my flour and sugar and oatmeal containers, basically a bunch of kitchen shelves. Starting to see the light at the end of the kitchen tunnel!

I always like to drink a cup of tea when I want to eat too many sweets. I find it helps me sometimes just to have a flavor, or to feel like I'm consuming something that I like. Maybe some thing like that will help you stay on track?

Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I had a nice cup of bigelows decaf chai tea last night - it did really hit the spot.

Day 3 - didnt do much, but did fry up my tofu. Also planning out different furniture arrangements.

Day 4 - swiffer-washed the kitchen floor and washed the dishes. So kitchen is pretty much done for now. Yay!

Yes its warm enough, but it knocks me out. I dont know if i overdo or if the sun interacts with my meds. So im just trying to be physical enough with the housecleaning. Its on the schedule for vacation part 2.

Good for you, hankster! I just wanted to suggest on the tofu that if you pressed it, it changes the texture, in case you want variety. Also, if you cube it and coat it with corn starch before you fry it, it gets these really nice crunchy coating.
Thanks for this!

Yes! Sometimes, when overwhelmed, I make an "I Did It" list. I've found it to be very helpful.

I used to be a huge clean-freak. I realize now that it was the only thing in my life I felt I could control. These days, I am making slow but steady progress in getting rid of stuff, and trying to get more organized. Former T used to say, "Make haste slowly." One of my favorite sayings.

Your thread has inspired me to go back to something I did last summer--I made my own flavored waters. Cucumber slices in water is very refreshing. Fresh or frozen fruit in water is delicious, refreshing, and helps satisfy my sweet tooth. I found a lot of good suggestions for fruit/herb combinations online, too.

Thanks for inspiring me!

BTW, I like your new avatar. You look like a super-hero.
