When I lived in Minneapolis, the Pride parade there started including asexual groups (who knew they had a flag too?)
Also, other groups I would not have expected. |

A little less sore throat, a little more clogged sinuses. Time for decongestants soon. Thanks!

Here's a list the kids pointed me to.
http://tahoesafealliance.org/for-lgb...-lgbtqia-mean/ There are more, but damned if I can remember them all now. I'm old, it's late, and why do we have so many labels anyway???? |

I marched with our asexual contingent a couple times, to support a friend who was active in it and because I consider myself close enough to asexual to be part of the category.
If I'm representing their views correctly, here are a few reasons: There is a certain amount of hiding, dissembling and even shame, starting early. I've experienced this myself. This culture has a hard time wrapping its head around someone who's just not attracted like that, to anyone. There's a lot of misconceptions about asexuals all being (gasp!) unaffectionate loners, for example, and a lot of pathologizing of people for whom coupling and/or sex simply aren't important. Asexuality could be considered a sexual minority of sorts and doesn't have the numbers to be a separate movement. So I can see it's place in that context. PC is a great place to hang out, I can see already, but it's bedtime for me. Goodnight. |

I don't go anymore. It is way too middle class and straight now. We were a bit edgier in the late 70s and early 80s. I remember a lot of people would go but not march for fear of being found out. No family friendly stuff in my gay pride parading. And it was a parade and not a fest.
And we walked uphill barefoot in the snow both ways to get there.

Really? I always read when I am in a bathtub. I wouldn't want to read a valuable or irreplaceable book, but I have never had a book actually get wet or damp.
If I couldn't read it would indeed be boring. |

Perhaps I am particularly splashy in a tub. I don't find the experience comfortable, my glasses fog up, the book gets wet because my hands are wet, etc.

We have terrible public transportation where I live. But I think it would be brave to use it if one was a germaphobe - not brave just in general to use it. I use public transportation if I go to London (and have used it in other foreign cities - Tokyo and Kyoto were great), Chicago, Vancouver, New York or Boston. I have not found it to be particularly easy to use in other cities particularly in the south or midwest parts of the US.

I catch pt everywhere. Mostly trains, but often trams and buses too. Whenever I move, I find a place close to pt and shops, saves money and time, and is good for the environment. And ... the walking keeps me healthy enough. Not sure I'll ever try to get a license, I'm happy getting about as I do.

I don't have much of a choice. My T's office is in the downtown area which has no parking. I once drove around a mess of one-way streets for half an hour before I found a spot which I only got because someone was leaving. Then had to walk two blocks. Public transit seems to be more stress free.

Yeah I don't mind public because of germs. I do mind public due to fear of being judged by anyone and everyone. I'm not sure why the germy blanket is more distressing than a germy person.

Yes, Vancouver. ![]() I don't consider myself a germaphobe. I do however, worry about bringing germs home to my baby girl. With her immune system being taxed at times she has a harder time fighting off colds. The last one she had was two weeks of stuffiness. And uhm the blanket thing... Yeah. I could probably explain that better. The germs I'm thinking of are more "bed related" lol

We also have terrible public transportation. Most everyone just drives everywhere.
For me it's fear of germs (because, yes, I am a total germaphobe), and I don't like crowds or smallish spaces with random people...it's too overstimulating. Sometimes I get overstimulated just going to the grocery store.

The real temperature around here is -15 and the wind chill is -27... The more winters I spend around here, the more I contemplate moving south. I hate the cold. School is on a two hour delay waiting to see if it will warm up enough for kids to walk to school!

So at what point does one become able to change their title? Like I'm a Poobah. I've seen people with stuff that's personalized. I'm curious.
