That is not all that off base - I do have a leather apron and I do have safety goggles (perhaps I need to look into getting more steam punkish ones) and I love to wield fire. I would like to be a blacksmith. OR Prometheus.

Prometheus - a fire god or something? i forget. Something to do with fire. I love fire too - I've long said if I were going to be a criminal, I would be an arsonist. I limit my fire activities to bbq'ing and an occasional campfire.

My ears are starting to crackle and pop today - I still can't hear very well, and my head is still terribly congested, can't smell anything and I'm still coughing, but my ears are starting to pop finally - this is a good thing - I think - and I don't feel like I was run over by a truck anymore. This cold is lasting forever - I've had it since the 18th.

The crud is unpleasant - it took me about two weeks. Good luck sickies.

Prometheus is the Titan/god of fire who brought fire to humans which pissed Zeus off. He was (in one of main lines of myths) chained to a rock and an eagle ate his liver - which kept growing back because of that pesky immortality. He was eventually rescued by Hercules. It is also the act that led to Pandora.

Rank has its privileges.
But he could be a bit of a hothead. Prometheus sort of messed with him though.

So I'm sort of in a quandary. The invitation was sent out today at work for people to apply for the Leadership Academy training. My supervisor told me a couple weeks ago that he'd like to see me get into that. But I'm a little nervous about taking on too much, too quickly - I'm doing every project that comes up, just got accepted into the Olympian program (where we assist with coaching fellow employees and put on workshops and things), and am supposed to be in the next group of promotions to Senior Advocate; things are going really well at work, and I have a niggling fear that I'd be biting off more than I can chew if I go for the Leadership thing too... like will I implode under the pressure.... ?? I want to do it, I think I can handle it, but...?? Maybe I'll talk to my supervisor a little more about it before I decide whether I should or should not apply for it. I am just not sure....

I like that! I know what t's thoughts would be. She would tell me I should go for it. I guess I want to know what the benefits would be aside from it being a big plus if I ever apply for supervisor, which I won't, because I've been a supervisor before in the same industry, and I hated the politics of the job... so have no desire to be a supervisor again!! Besides I like and appreciate having a job that I go do and feel good about from 7-4 M-F and then my evenings and weekends are MINE. I've been salaried before with a pager on my hip and worked alllll the time. Not looking for that anymore. Well, I'll talk to my sup today and see what he says. Speaking of which I need to get my butt out the door! Have a good day/night everyone!!!

Art, I was just thinking... When you were a supervisor before it was pre-T, right? With your improved interpersonal skills from therapy it's possible that you might enjoy the energy of balancing all those people's needs rather than getting bogged down in the negative politics?
I think with your positive outlook you'd make a great supervisor.
I think you should totally go for the class btw. Work those mad leadership skillz!

I do think there is something to be said for just going in, doing the job, and going home - without going into management of some sort. Particularly if you sort of enjoy the job you are doing and have other interests outside of work. My partner is a lot happier since she got off the management train. I mean super if management is what you long to do - but if not, I would not criticize myself or worry about it.

This is one of those periods where I just ****ing hate those people. Evil wily bastards. (one just tried to screw a client of mine)
Good thing I took time away from the first one and then she is on vacation.

I am drinking espresso brewed over directly onto ice to see if I can cut out milk. My morning triple shot latte is the only place I drink it and I would like to cut it out altogether but I do like milk in coffee. I usually cold brew for iced coffee - but that is extremely strong and needs something to cut it - so I am trying (for summer) to see if I can wean onto ice coffee without milk and then in fall go to hot shots with no milk. This breaks my no coffee after 11am rule and I will be jazzed up more than I like for awhile - but I do like the taste - so it was a good experiment.

Well that made me crave something cold & caffeinated, pronto. This will be my second visit to the coffee shop in the past 5 hours. Better than the office coffee, that's for sure.

Don't you have the aeropress? Or was that someone else? I would never drink the work swill. We actually have huge fancy coffee/espresso maker at work but the beans they use are not potable in my opinion.

Yup, that's me! And I love using it. It's just at home and I'm 30 blocks east.

The place I'm heading to has cold brew coffee on nitro—it pours almost exactly like a Guinness, with a head and creamy texture. No milk needed. It's outrageously delicious.
