Depends on your religious beliefs
If you believe in reincarnation, many schools of thought believe we choose our dharma, including choosing our parents, etc in order to help us move toward enlightenment

No matter my religious beliefs on fate, before birth life, etc - I wouldn't see a T that had the word 'conception' in their description.... yikes!

If you were clear enough on your dharma to KNOW for certain the path you chose you are either the Buddha or have delusions of grandeur. So I'd avoid that one too.

Sounds like she has unresolved parent issues.

That'll be 5 cents, please!

Website issues would be a good poll. I think it's hard not to judge them by it, but it's usually never very accurate (from what I've found). I like my therapist infinitely more than her website, which almost kicked her out of the running. I saw another whose website I liked, but she was impossible to sit in the same room with.

My T's website picture looks absolutely nothing like him. My impression of him was completely different before I met him.

I've just made a post on another thread that sums up my thinking on fantasies, desires, plans and actions.

http://forums.psychcentral.com/roman...ml#post5272456

This was one of my key learnings from therapy.

You don't think drunk texts are a Royal Road to the Subconscious? Is there nothing to be learned from seeing us at our most upset and least inhibited?

Serious question.

According to some Presbyterians (!) God wrote out a list of who will and will not be saved before he created the universe.

I picked current T for a first appointment in large part (after checking out training, modality etc) based on the fact that all she has is a bare bones (two short paragraphs) PsychToday profile which just lists her experience and gives a summary of her professional presentations etc. Absolutely nothing like the usual gooey stuff on T websites -- it doesn't even mention anything about clients, her approach etc.

So, I was totally expecting someone who was all business, so to speak (I'd given up on finding a T who was clued-in by then). Turns out -- at least so far -- she's been the most 'attuned' / 'in sync' of all the Ts I've checked out. It's been all the more surprising given the amount of cribbing I've done about former T -- all other Ts got kinda freaked out, weird and defensive when I even barely mentioned it.

Picking her based on the website turned out well (early days yet though) but not quite in the way expected.

ETA: I would totally want to make an appointment with the pre-conception T -- actually mention my awe over it in the introductory email etc. Not sure if I'd want to pay for the entertainment though but will likely make the call post their response.
Thanks for this!

Alas, I lack your cojones.

Also, it's fairly obvious from her picture that she has some kind of physical disability.

My t has an old picture on her online profile, I really should give her trouble about updating it lol. Seriously, she's still beautiful, I don't know why she doesn't just update it. Truth in advertising and all that.

The first one, before she stopped taking new clients, had a picture from the 80s (I think- she was wearing one of those cowl-necked sweaters which I think were around in the 80s) on her site. I don't find her attractive by any stretch of the imagination, but I guess she is not completely unfortunate.

I called my t partly because of the words "dream work" in her profile and also because she did look so warm in her picture.

The first one might have been going for warmish, but she failed so spectacularly, that I thought it worth a shot.

Maybe it is just my city (?), but barely ANY T's have websites. I'd say 90% of T's are just name and # on an insurance website.

They would be in my case. That is why I studiously abide by the couch rule. Well, ever since a particular drunk email a long time ago.

Well - there is some belief in it such as:

Brian's mother: What star sign is he?

Wise Man #2: Capricorn.

Brian's mother: Capricorn, eh? What are they like?

Wise Man #2: He is the son of God, our Messiah.

Wise Man #1: King of the Jews.

Brian's mother: And that's Capricorn, is it?

Wise Man #3: No, no, that's just him.

Brian's mother: Oh, I was going to say, otherwise there'd be a lot of them.
(Monty Python Life of Brian"

and of course:
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: [dreaming] I am not a Frankenstein. I'm a Fronkensteen. Don't give me that. I don't believe in fate. And I won't say it.

[pauses]

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: All right, you win. You win. I give. I'll say it. I'll say it. I'll say it. DESTINY! DESTINY! NO ESCAPING THAT FOR ME! DESTINY! DESTINY! NO ESCAPING THAT FOR ME!
(young Frankenstein)

Does anyone really want Lucy Van Pelt as their therapist?

I just realized that Schulz, who was chronically depressed, must have disliked therapists.

I'm starting a thread on websites. I need to share my pain.
