And do you think it helps? Why or why not?

My therapist does CBT with me, and after not seeing much improvement we are now focusing on ACT and mindfulness to see if that works better for me. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I am willing to try anything to feel better so I hope it works.

I don't know much about other types of therapy so if you would be willing to explain the basics of the type of therapy you do I would appreciate that! But I can always google it too

I kind of use a mix of CBT and DBT and talk therapy. My main problem is using positive coping skills when triggered in the day to day. I know the skills to use, some I got from DBT, some I've used for years (such as forums and reading and getting away from the situation). I just have really hard time using them when it counts, and that is mainly what I am working on with my T, but also if there is something pressing, we talk about it before doing anything else.

My therapist does person-centered therapy with me. This means she provides me with empathy and lots of unconditional positive regard. I direct my own therapy and she provides the support, guidance and structure so that I can discover my own solutions within myself. It's also known as Rogerian therapy. I love this type of therapy because I am not viewed as flawed and my thoughts are not viewed as problematic. I feel like my T sees me as a just a person trying to work toward a more balanced and centered way of life. This type of therapy has helped me more than I could have ever imagined or hoped for --- I would say it is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I truly feel deep down inside me that I am a whole person..not broken at all.

I'm doing schema therapy with my T. It's very interesting, look up the book 'reinventing your life' by Jeffery Young if your interested. It builds on CBT by adding the concepts of 'schemas' and 'modes'. It also incorporates elements of Gestalt therapy. It's distinct feature is its use of limited-reparenting.

This is deep work and at times can be deeply painful, but the growth can be amazing.

The two each profess to be psychodynamic/eclectic.

My first T was a psychoanalyst and the second was eclectic. I liked the eclectic better, both the T and the approach.

My T is humanistic integrative - person-centred/gestalt/transactional analysis and apparently CBT?!

I'm not sure that I believe that all these approaches can be integrated that well, and I'm not sure if it's working at the moment.

My therapist doesn't advertise to work from any one particular mode of therapy. He's eclectic which I prefer. He uses what approach makes most sense at the time. I'd say he leans behavioral, but even there it is a combination of the various behavioral therapy approaches.

I just started reading the book "Reinventing Your Life" by Jeffery Young. It is about schema therapy.
I have to say it is so excellent and I am getting alot of encouragement from it. I've identified my schemas and it makes so much sense!

I've done a decent amount of CBT and DBT in the past, which has been really helpful with certain things. Current T is more eclectic- she'll pull out some CBT stuff when I need it, but I think one of her research areas of interest is in REBT (rational emotive behavior therapy or something like that) and it seems line up with what I've gotten from her in session. I like it and find it helpful, whatever she's doing. I'm sure she does other methods too, but I'm not sure what they are.

Mine is person centred, I've done CBT in e past and it helped with symptoms but current T has been very long term and has really been able to get to the underlying issues I struggle with.

My T is pretty eclectic but she likes to do EMDR with me. I was doing EMDR with another therapist before she moved and my current T was on her list of referrals. When I first started working with current T, she didn't do EMDR but finished her training about 2.5 months later. We do it pretty regularly now.

My T does psychodynamic therapy and works from a "self psychology" perspective. I have done CBT and ACT in the past but I found it to be quite "surface level" and I wanted to explore deeper. Now having done that I'm not quite sure what I have got myself into! I have made more progress in opening up with this T than any other so I guess I'm on the right track.

My therapist doesn't really advertise a particular type of therapy. I know that she draws from some DBT stuff, mindfulness, relational-cultural therapy, and probably other thing too. Sometimes she'll appeal to the dog trainer in me and we'll look at operant conditioning type stuff, but that's when I'm being particularly obtuse and she needs to break things down for me in terms I'm familiar with. For me, my therapist's approach works very well. I don't do well with a one size fits all approach and would get very frustrated with a therapist that worked that way.

We have never talked about a specific type. She's pulled stuff from different places and she knows I research lots of it. This seems to describe pretty close to what it feels like.
