I am about an hour away from Disney world. Utilities are included, but still.

Well, I just submitted a pre-application to the public housing authority. I just have to complete the verification package now (pay stubs/etc) to send in within 10 days. Then I will be contacted if they have anything. It is worth a shot. They base rent off income, so it may be the nest bet if there are any openings.

Well, I gotta get shoes on and leave for CVS. I will be back later.

Squirrel - sorry you have to find a new place. Around here, one can have a month to month tenancy and it is breakable with one month's notice on either side. One can raise the rent as much as one wants - but usually that sort of hike is to get rid of a tenant. It would be legal here with a month to month - which is the presumption if there is no written lease.

And definitely don't live your car or the homeless camp. I agree about asking around to see if anyone knows of someone renting a room or who needs a roommate. There are probably other sites besides Craigslist that list places, too. Maybe just try searching "rent a room" and your city, see if other sites turn up?

Airbnb might turn up some good temporary thing too especially since you aren't around much- though maybe expensive if you're near disney. That is what I settled on when I was displaced. The host cut me a discount since my stay was fairly extended.

But the subsidized housing can take a very, very long time depending on where you are and the system in place. My friend's been waiting ten years.

I was thinking the same about the subsidized housing list--that the wait could be very long.

What about house sitting? Particularly if you are near a university or don't mind caring for pets. College professors often take sabbaticals away from home and are gone for a semester or so. Could be worth looking into.

I was going to suggest low income or section 8 housing. Their limit for your income is pretty low tho. Here at least. And the waiting lists are often a year or more long

The law might be on your side over this. YMMV.

However, the best advice I can give is to advertise for a flatmate. That way you get to stay and choose who you live with. Best possible result.

In Florida
If the tenancy is month to month, the landlord may terminate the tenancy pursuant to 83.57 F.S. by providing 15 days notice. The notice must be served according to 83.56(4) by mailing or personal delivery, of if the tenant is absent from the premises, by posting. In said notice, the landlord may propose new terms for the next monthly tenancy. The tenant then has the choice to remain, accepting the new terms, or to reject the new terms by vacating at the end of the monthly rental period.
