Couch 144: The contact-miked cactus couch

So after my T appointment this morning, I've spent all afternoon/evening running around with H getting stuff for his mother. We left her house and I was almost driven to tears. The house smells like mold, trash all over the floor, and H says he thinks there's black mold under the paint.

He has 3 siblings, so 4 of them total. How did we all let her live this way?

Hi, couch.

I need to take my evening meds still...now it is about the right time, so I should go do that. I also need to do a couple discussion posts in my classroom as well still...I took another little nap between my last post and now.

I can't move my toe. I try but it doesn't work. And I feel like I really need to move it right now. It's a really strange and frustrating feeling!!!

Well, just got off phone with mom. Brother's case was reopened and additional charges filed. Now he has loitering and prowling added to the list and the others back on as well. The kid that was picked up with him saw a judge today and submitted a statement that was added to my brother's case. I am not sure what the kid said, but evidently the state PA thought it was enough to reopen the case and file more charges. Now he has a new court date in mid-August. Guess he isn't getting out in a week or so as originally thought when his previous court date was canceled. He just makes some "bad" decisions. I am not sure what all happened, but this is not his first rodeo with the law.

I am so not impressed with my Ds psychologist. I rang yesterday to reschedule as I said she could see friends. 15 mins after my D cancelled appt time the psychologist rings and blasts me for not notifying her that D couldn't attend. She was so condescending and rude I explained that I had rung and rescheduled, next thing she asks would I like to reschedule? I said I have already done this. Then she gave a lame laugh and said maybe she should read her notes properly. I politely agreed and hung up. We haven't even seen this woman yet.
I am still annoyed she treated me like this.

I spent a lovely evening and morning with my eldest daughter, though. Watching lots of Derren Brown and Would I lie To You.

Well, I should probably get to bed as I have CVS in the morning. I still need to make one more discussion post in my classroom though for today, so I shall go do that and then head to bed. Night couch.

Well, discussion post made. I could try to go to sleep, but I am not tired. I guess I could get a head start on my assignment for next week and write the transcript of my narrated presentation so it is ready to record once I get a mic of some type. I just have to make sure it would take between 5 and 7 minutes to say. I can do this. Now to decide whether I want to argue for or against using technology for collaborative learning in the classroom. Honestly, I am on the fence about it as it does have it's advantages in today's digital world, but at the same time...digital collaboration is really not as skill building as hands-on collaboration and discussion. I guess I need to just pick a side and fly with it.

And now some b****** has parked me in. I might be able to drive alomg the nature strip but the gutter is deep.

I've written about the Pdoc I saw before Abusive Pdoc. He's the guy in federal prison (not for anything he did to me.) I'll call him Pdoc #1.

Well, I reread the pamphlet online and there's a small blurb-
'Sexual misconduct includes a much broader range of activity, which may include ............verbal suggestions, innuendoes or advances. This kind of sexual behavior by a therapist with a patient is unethical, unprofessional and illegal."

Pdoc#1 was charismatic, had fluid boundaries and was oppositional to authority. Basically he was pretty wild. I told myself this is just how psychiatry was done in California.

Looking back, I recognized Pdoc#1 behaved unethically (frequently). But I really liked the guy. He brought sunshine with him when he entered a room.

I never thought he did anything criminal or illegal with me.

Until now? Maybe?
It's nothing that would stick now...and I wouldn't even pursue this because he's in federal prison already anyway.

I admit, thinking he might have behaved criminally with me is causing me to reprocess our entire relationship.

You're right, there is no replacement for the skill set that students learn from hands on collaboration, but so much of our world today relies on digital collaboration that we also are responsible for teaching our students how to do this properly. I mean, think about your class. Don't you have a study group that you collaborate with for assignments? It also happens in the workplace all the time now. So I would be pro digital collaboration just strictly on the merits of preparing students for 21st century employment, but I do also see the other side of the argument.
