Welcome to the couch, old and new! A place to hang out - sometimes you get immediate feedback, sometimes you don't.

Shouting, "Cool Whip" tends to bring others out from between the cushions if you're feeling lonely.

This is a chatty thread. All are welcome. We're kind of psychologically oriented, sometimes. We try to be supportive. At times we discuss what that means.

It’s a place to plop down on the couch when you come home from work or wherever, or wake up in the middle of the night, or check in at lunch, rant a bit or not, and be among friends.

We advise you not to drink or drug and text your therapist ("T") - we speak from experience.

Sometimes the thread moves fast and you might get overlooked; sometimes it moves slowly and all you hear are crickets. Sometimes you get hugged or thanked pages later. So if it's a bigger question, you might want to start a new thread.

Grab a cushion, a spot on the floor, or an armchair in the corner and make yourselves comfy!

I think I might have injured my shoulder in that first yoga class I took. Both my shoulders, but particularly my right, have hurt more and more every day since then. At first I thought it was from laying around in bed too much, but even though I've not spent as much time in bed the last couple days, it's just gotten worse. And my upper arms and shoulders really hurt during the class. I'm not sure what to do.

So sorry susannah. Have you had shoulder issues before? I don't have much upper body strength so certain positions (like downward dog and plank) are challenging for me. I don't have joint issues though.
Thanks for this!

No, I haven't had shoulder issues before - but even when I was more athletic, my chosen sport didn't require much upper body strength, so the muscles in my back and shoulders are pretty weak.

Maybe I should email my instructor... I don't want to just push through and hope it will get better while also continuing to put stress on it. Next lab class is Monday. I've pushed through before and as a result, had to have orthopedic surgery. So maybe I'm being paranoid, but still.

I had sore shoulders when I first started yoga, even though I do have upper-body strength from swimming. I just kept going and in a couple months the yoga muscles developed or lengthened or whatever.

I don’t think the pain should be getting worse, though.

If the pain is getting worse it's a bad sign. There's a difference between being a little sore the day after a workout and having sharp pain that gets worse.

Pushing through when you're in a lot of pain is not a good idea. Pain is there for a reason.

Yeah, my right should only felt a tiny bit sore the day after. The getting worse is why I'm worried. Each day it feels distinctly worse than the last.

I was just reading about yoga shoulder injuries, and apparently the type we're doing (flow) has the highest number of shoulder injuries. So that's great.

The thing is, my body has a history of overdoing the immune response, which ends up causing complications and suddenly I'm having a screw put in an ankle because my body won't decrease the inflammation to allow a tiny stress fracture to heal or having the sockets of my wisdom teeth debrided because my body has helpfully created an overabundance of inflammatory tissue. Or just generally cranking out so much of the inflammatory proteins that no piece of me misses out on the fun and I feel like ****.

Anyway.

Also, randomly, got a free bottle of Hyaluronic Acid Serum at work today. Yeah! I guess?!?! I've never actually used it before but I like free stuff. And my boss had me looking up definitions of harassment today. That's never a good sign. Kit

So I finally had my dr exam today, it was not fun at all, and the guy DR was blah. Anyway... so the nurse was trying to be friendly and was asking about my surgery. She's like "You are very young for that" and I made it known, "I never want kids, never have, never will, I can't imagine anything I'd hate more than being a mom" She looked shocked and was like "Well what about your partner?" I said, I didn't have one (but it's nice she assumed I'm not ugly enough for one) and said "Well what if I did and he did?" I said "We wouldn't be dating"
She really was confused and kept asking me questions about if my friends have kids and all this, I was being friendly because I try to be polite especially when I'm anxious but I found this so intrusive, like lady, does it really matter to you at all? No, so shut up and stop judging me. I hate how people assume all women want children and marriage. I've never wanted either. I remember as a kid, I would tell my mom "I don't want to be a mom, do I have to?"
Marriage could only happen for me if I REALLY loved him and it was a quick vegas wedding with no family, otherwise it's a hard pass for me. I'm very much set in my ways.

Anyway... so ya, I was annoyed then the old no personality DR made things even worse. Glad that **** is over. Wont be seeing him again

Neither appeal to me, either. But I'd definitely rather get married than have a kid.

Today's session went well. He was very empathetic and kind towards me and explained that he did believe me. All is well again.

I never understood why people worry so much about what happens in someone else's uterus. Like go sweep your own doorstep. I'm sorry that happened to you, DP.

I love it! Ha

It's ok, I mean it was annoying but I held my own and remained polite. I'm used to stuff like this, people have always been baffled with my 100% certainty about it. Even my T, would say things about how it's not always black or white or always/never and I'm like no but in this case it is. LOL He never wants kids either so he wasn't really lecturing or anything but just was kinda trying in general to get me to not be so definite on things.

As a vegetarian, I've grown up with annoying questions from people about my own personal choices, but it's something I'm used to.
