I’m being bad... I found the old steak-ums ... I don’t think they have any beef in them but they aren’t vegan either... I think they are right up there with hotdogs. But.... oooooh they taste good today! I put them on wheat bread to make myself feel better... but I don’t think that really counts either

LOL! That was actually an ad series in the 1950's and 60's, to promote how comfortable the bras were, that women were out doing amazing things wearing just their bras. Unlike today, when they actually are. I just meant the oniony smell of steak-ums reminded me of White Castle fast food. If i were wearing a bra, i would be overdressed for a change!

Ahhhh I thought white castle was a place, like Warwick castle.

That looks amazing. I just printed it. Thanks for posting!

I am not vegan, or even vegetarian, but I have a couple veg/vegan cookbooks because the flavors don't rely on meat or dairy, and I can add leftover chicken (or whatever) if I have it.

Yeah, we aren't vegetarians or vegans either, but I like vegetarian cooking a lot. Plus dealing with raw meat is icky. Budget Bytes has a ton of good recipes, both meaty and not.

I used to date a strict vegetarian who made a big deal about wanting me to stop eating meat. I tried, but I never could figure out what I could eat. Then I started dating my wife, who was sort of vegetarian and an excellent cook, and suddenly I was eating vegetarian almost exclusively without even noticing. Plus she did not care if I ate meat or not, which is part of why I married her and not the former girlfriend. Few people like being controlled...

This sounds a lot like me and my H, except with me in your wife's role. I'm vegetarian but didn't expect H to be one. But it's easier just to make meals that we both eat. And he seems content to eat vegetarian much of the time. He even often chooses to order a black bean burger (a housemade one at a local restaurant) or some other vegetarian options when we're out. He'll still often get meat out, but will often say he doesn't feel that well if he's had a burger or meatball sub. Then there's my D, who just eats the burger or hot dog off the bun...But she also likes some stuff like hummus, so maybe there's hope...

I couchies! I'm having kind of a nice day, actually--spent the night with the BF, then had brunch with a good friend, now holing up inside watching the rain and playing Zelda. (I'd never been into video games until EM mentioned Stardew Valley on this board about a year ago... now I'm hooked!)

Hope y'all are having reasonably nice days as well

I'm hurting real bad. T cancelled our last session tomorrow because of pregnancy complications and she's now on bedrest. I didn't even get to say goodbye. She didn't hold my objects to re-energize them. She's going to have someone get my letter. And I'm asking her to still leave me a voicemail, tell me the gender of her baby and/or what color to make the blanket, and what day I can expect to hear from her again. I'm so sad and depressed. Six months without her. I now have to worry about her as well for 6 months. I don't want anything bad happening to her or her baby!

Any and all support welcomed!

For my fellow academics.... One of our job candidates has filed a complaint that she was discriminated against because of her race/ethnicity. Her evidence is the claim that someone told her that her teaching demo was 20 minutes long but a) the search chair denied saying that and only communicated with her through email, none of which said anything about 20 minutes and b) she was twice sent a schedule that showed the teaching demo was 55 minutes long.

Aside from the fact that 55 minutes is clearly too long for a teaching demo, this has me very upset because my colleague did not discriminate against this candidate. This person was clearly the second choice of the committee when we met. She wasn't able to answer any questions asked during the whole day, including a question from a student during the teaching demo that basically asked "how should we apply this when working in our field?"

Just very upset to have a colleague be accused of racism and worried that we might be forced to hire this person.

I'm sorry, @ScarletPimpernel.

That sounds really tough. I hope everything turns out well for your T, and that you are still able to make the blanket.

If I were she, I wouldn’t want to work in a place where I’d burned my bridges before I even got there by alienating my future colleagues.

If she could not demonstrate competence and your department is agreed on that, I can’t imagine being forced to hire her.

Incidentally I’ve never done a teaching demo less than 45 minutes.

There needs to be more than just an accusation. We do all faculty hiring by committee first review and choosing the candidates to present to the faculty and it then requires full faculty voting to pick one. It is galling to be accused of such, but it often does not come to much.

If it ever goes to court, and the candidate wins, it is most likely to be a cash settlement.

Hugs, Scarlet, I'm so sorry. Would it be possible to have a phone session with her? I know it wouldn't be the same, but it would still be something. And is it possible to see the other T sooner?

I don't think it's possible for a phone session. I don't think it will be helpful either. I don't want to get upset with her and add any stress. It's better that I vent here or to L. I have called and emailed L asking her for a session this week. Sun and Mon are her weekends, so I might not hear back from her until Tues.

I just realized this is dejavu to me. When ex-T went on a Christmas vacation, she canceled my last session with her due to a family emergency. Ex-Pdoc couldn't see me the week before her maternity leave. And now this.

I've only shed a few tears, but I'm bawling inside. I just don't feel comfortable crying around my H and dad. They'll just want to fix things. I think it's hard too because I am hurt that this happened, but feel really bad for T. It's dialectical.

I understand the complicated feelings of being upset with her but also feeling bad for her. It's kind of like when I found out about ex-MC's wife being sick (and eventually dying). I felt bad for him and felt almost guilty for being upset with him when he would cancel at the last minute. But the cancellations were still really difficult. Please talk all you want on here--we get it.
