Rob offered a tuesday session last week, which I had accepted, but I just cancelled as I phoned a hypnotherapist (Louise) this morning in tears and she said she could see me tomorrow at 1.30pm, but she still hasn't sent me the email she said she would- unless i entered my email wrong on the website but it's always autofilled on my browser.

I've also just emailed someone else too- who does charge much more, but I just feel desperate.

Rob also said he had space on thursday and friday at the same time during the week and I said I would let him know if I wanted it.

I'm glad to hear you're listening to your needs, Cake.

The thing is I don't know if i'm making the right choice or not.

If I should just stick with Rob or try something new.

You could try new Ts but have him as a backup until you're more certain?

woke up in a panic this morning from a nightmare about my brother. it was so bad i had to text my mom this morning to make sure he is ok. (he's at her house right now, until he checks in at his new post on the East coast). he called me in response to the text so i am much relieved that he is fine.

I had too many replies in a short space of time:

1.First T Amanda: Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapist & Psychotherapist

Free initial in-person, telephone or online session + £50 per session.

Gave her my phone number and she said she would call in between clients.

2. Ann - Analytical Hypnotherapist & Psychotherapist

EDMR + EFT but Initial Consultations are - £90 for first session.

Asked me to call her back at 3pm.

3. Angela - EFT + NLP and Hypno

-£90 for first session but 20 mins free intro if I give her my telephone number.

4. Was Louise but she hasn't sent me anything yet and I might cancel/ rearrange and see Rob anyway.

Sounds super scary.

Glad your brother is okay.

So Ann is crossed off the list as she thinks the BPD needs much more care and thinks I would be safer with a psychiatrist/ I need a team. She said if i hadn't told her that she would have worked with me, but she was glad I could be honest with her.

Is there anybody on your list who specifically works with BPD? I say that because there are specific, helpful treatments for BPD, and there are also a ton of therapists out there who are not made of tough enough stuff to work with it (and thus usually mess things up and make you feel worse). I have borderline traits but not a BPD diagnosis, and I have one T who works with BPD and one who doesn't and the contrast can be pretty stark. The BPD T is waaay better with the borderline stuff than the other one, even though they are both good therapists.

To be honest I don't think any of them will be specifically trained in BPD. Louise said she was okay with it when I spoke to her on the phone, but I wanted to try hypnotherapy/ EFT or something different from usual talk therapy.

Maybe I'll just leave it for now.

I wonder if since you're in a crisis situation it would be better to talk to someone who already knows you. If you go to an intake session with someone, it'll likely be a lot of background questions that may not specifically help you with your immediate situation. Just a thought.

She said she would email me some generic sign up documents but hasn't yet. Granted it's still early in the day. I'd rather see her on thusday though if she did reply.

There's an official Paul McKenna channel on youtube, so maybe I'll just try the free uploads he has up.

Rob also replied to my "I'm struggling with SH" email- so I might 80% end up seeing him.

Thank you. It does make sense to just stick with R instead of trying to find someone new.

Hm, that's a really good point. Maybe try Louise in a couple weeks instead? Or if you could talk to Rob tomorrow, then possibly Louise later this week or next?

In case you didn't see this post from a few pages back: I posted that I thought you had already figured it out already.

I sent a follow up email to her asking if I could move to thursday.

Rob's wife also actually has a super close name to Louise.

I kinda wish I had started therapy when I was a child.

Hey Lemoncake, don't beat yourself up. I don't have BPD but another PD - DBT and Schema Therapy can be very helpful for BPD.

I don't think it has to be Schema Therapy but I do think it's important that the T doesn't see BPD as "manipulative" and works in a relational manner.
