I'm trying today, to see how it works if I just constantly go back and forth from 100% to 125% to 100% and hopefully it doesn't add too much to my production time or bother my eyes even more. I'll figure something out. Our 2nd monitor that we use for this program is already 24 inches diagonal!! it's nuts how tiny the content is even with that size of monitor. also they have these computers so locked down that we can't adjust the overall size of the windows or whatever.

I agree that you should meet with your boss about this. It seems discriminatory, in a way, and I seriously doubt you're the only employee having this issue.

Problem is, the content is SO tiny at 100% I get terrible eyestrain trying to use it. I have an eyeball headache already today and I've worked only 2 hours. I'm trying to figure out how to reconfigure my desk so I can have one monitor closer to my eyes and keep the other one where it is as that distance is okay for the other programs that we have to use. The biggest issue with this other program, is that there's no scroll bar at the bottom so you can't just make it 125% which I usually do, and scroll over. I don't know what the answer is; moving the monitor closer may not help at all I don't know. I may have to seriously start looking for a new job. I hate to quit after 10 years but... I can't work with an eyeball headache every day. The other option would be work providing me with a monitor that is about 5 inches wider, but I do not see that happening. I need to have a talk with my boss...
I totally understand your problem. Even with my new glasses whuch finally help me actually see for tge first time in years, I still have to enlarge almost every system I use. Some of them however do not have the capability and others like you said lose maneuverability. Then I am expected to read files over zoom when others are screen sharing which is next to impossible. When I am WFH i have to bring my lap top right up to my face. I'm sure that is attractive.

Luckily I am not frontline with customers. I would definitely speak to your boss and HR. It should be a kind of ADA accommodation and they should either be able to either change tge font on the program in question or provide you with larger screens. Good luck. I know tge difficulty you are dealing with. It also causes neck and shoulder pain from tension. Truly a meducal issue.

Artie - They also make magnifying screen cover. My mom has to use that at her job.

Thanks y'all! Yes, I have computer glasses (last time I saw eye doctor not all that long ago I got two different pairs, one for computer and one for distance). I'll look for a magnifying screen cover, maybe they make them this size. To me anyway, it looks like an abnormally large monitor but maybe i'm just out of touch!

Went OK with Dr. T today. It felt like we were both being really careful in what we said, which I suppose is good. But also felt a bit unnatural. Talked (calmly) about some of the stuff from Friday, some clarifications. Might post more later.

I don't see him again until Friday because I'm seeing R Thursday and didn't want 4 sessions in one week again, in part for financial reasons, but also because it's a lot emotionally--really, I think 3 is becoming that way, hence my looking to go down to 2 sooner than later. But I think the space might be good?

Near the beginning, I did tell him a long story about how I'm bad at lighting matches (the topic came up), which helped make things feel a little less tense and a little more connected. I'm not the only one bad at lighting matches, right? He found it to be strange. I said some of it goes back to nearly burning the 7th-grade science teacher I had a crush on when he was trying to help me light a Bunsen burner (note: he's not "The Teacher" who I refer to at times, who was from the last couple years of high school: this was a nice, innocent crush, and he was very kind to me once he knew).

Anyway, the matches: I can do the wooden kind where you strike on the outside of the box, but the regular paper kind are very challenging for me. If I'm ever stuck in the wilderness with just a book of paper matches--well, it's been nice knowing you all.

T had contacted me on text asking if I wanted an in-person session at my house on Sunday. So I said that would be lovely. Well Sunday came and it was rainy and windy and miserable outside. At around 1 PM I texted T and said, "I assume you are not coming today due to the weather?" She hadn't said anything more about it but she lives in the mountains and I am pretty sure she got snow. I am going to talk to her tomorrow night, that is the plan anyway, and then she will be off for Christmas break. T did eventually text back, apologized, said she just woke up, and that she wouldn't be coming. Not a big deal. Just another blip in her flakiness.

I got through the first module on Babbel for Spanish (Latin America). I am trying to learn all that I can before my trip to Peru.

LT I'm not great with the book of matches either, though I can do the kind that you strike on the box just fine.

Hugs, Kit, I'm sorry she hadn't said anything about whether she was coming or not and had apparently fallen asleep? I have to wonder if she's ill or something, especially considering the falls. I hope not. And I hope tomorrow night is helpful at least, even if it wouldn't be the same as an in-person visit.

SK, I'm sorry she didn't show up, it seems like she's a rather scattered person overall? Maybe it'd be better for you to look for someone who has steady times to be around? I know you value her.

Also, regarding matches, I don't have that many experiences since I mostly use lighters, but the thinner the thing on the back, the more likely it is to break, for paper matches I think it's pretty normal for them to break...

It's a cold (for us), rainy, gloomy day here in the desert. Just logged off from work, H left on a job, and I'm gonna go snuggle under a blanket on the couch and read awhile.

I think some matchbooks are just crappy. I ordered a candle online that came with a matchbook and they are just the worst. Half of them won't strike at all.

We got a real tree for Christmas at work instead of an artificial. And the guys set it up and they had gotten out all the decorations. This was at lunch. I said, "Oh you guys are going to decorate the tree?" (Kinda surprised.) They didn't really answer. I just now went to the common area and two of my female coworkers have set out to decorate the tree because the guys didn't do it. They tried to rope me into decorating the tree, but I was like, I have stuff to do! (Not really! But I don't want to decorate the tree either!) I would have been up for decorating it like after Thanksgiving if we had an artificial one but it is past my internal what is the point of decorating now set point in my brain.) I will just hide out in my already decorated office.

It's cold in the office today. Although it is only like 41 degrees outside. I think something is wrong with the thermostat. My small space heater has been on all day and I just took off my jacket about an hour ago so I won't freeze when it is time to go home. I should have worn boots or another sweater today.

Here it's really normal to get a real tree, so we usually only get them a few days before Christmas. You can already get them now though, there's little villages of pines standing outside the shops.

When I was younger, I was instructed to light up a match for a birthday cake. I got it lit and was terrified I was going to burn my fingers, so I literally threw
the match across the room. Luckily I did not start a fire.

Yikes, Velcro.

I can absolutely imagine doing something similar.
It's a good thing I wasn't tasked with bringing fire back to the tribe.

You could consider a monitor magnifier, either a free standing one or one which attaches to the side of the screen. Then you wouldn't have to mess around with the actual computer settings.
Just a thought...
(sorry, posted this before reading others had already made similar suggestions)..

Hope you find a workable solution, eye strain is awful when you have to be on a computer for long periods of time.

Thanks. I reconfigured my desk in the meantime, but we are trying to get me a magnifier thingie paid for by work.
