I can't stand this kind of complicity. People need to grow a backbone. I hope you are doing ok.

Not gonna happen in the current administration. Anyone who is not a white anglosaxon protestant healthy preferably good-looking (whats THAT about?!) male is cannon fodder.

I am trying to not have my head explode with my mom mentioning my symptomatic, Covid-positive dad going out a day or two ago to buy some stuff at CVS or Target and saying he could get something tonight. Like, this is what drive-through and curbside pickup or delivery are for... My mom is sick now, too. I also offered to drive things to them (they're 45 minutes away, but it's totally manageable). Sigh.

ETA: She said he masked, but last I saw, like within the past year or so, he was just using a cloth mask from early Covid, not a KN-95 or N-95.

ATAT it sounds like it may be time to update the lawyer, see what the next step is and then maybe start to piece together more of your exit plan.
Thanks for this!

That’s really frustrating, LT. he shouldn’t go anywhere while symptomatic and spread that around.

Thanks, Jersey--agreed! I mean, he is on Paxlovid and much better, but still.

Doesn't help that my mom seemed judgmental of my getting Covid a couple years ago (at an indoor concert, where I knew I was taking a risk), as she was like, "We use hand sanitizer regularly and have been fine." So much of it seems random, like my dad got it from helping out a friend of theirs with back trouble. But they've also gone out to plenty of restaurants and stores unmasked. People who know they have it but are still going out contribute to the spread. (Same with flu or stomach bug.)

Honestly they are not even telling our students to stay home or mask unless they feel bad. I think more and more people are treating it like just any other type of cold.

Yeah, I think they really are at this point. It was also partly that my dad sounded pretty rough at one point, so I don't think he should have been out and about, for his own health, as much as he could avoid it.

ETA: Something my mom was going to have him go out for tonight was to get a scratch art book for my daughter because they had a $5 coupon that was expiring. I said I'd just give them the $5, and they apparently both laughed at that (this was over text--they reported the laughing).

Hi, ATAT, I'm new here. I'm also in academia. All of this is incredibly gross. Outrageous. I'm sorry you're experiencing this. You deserve better.

It doesn't feel very good when you've just outlined some unpleasant experiences with your ex and the therapist keeps asking "was there anything good about the relationship?" I feel pretty pathetic. This is L the prescriber I've been going to for a bit, not a new therapist. Still trying to figure out what I want to do on that front.

I hate that question. Is it supposed to be some open ended bs question that SUDDENLY MAKES YOU REALIZE oh the good did not outweigh the bad, what a genius therapist you are, i am so grateful!!!

I have no desire to go to work today. I mean I enjoy my current job but I’d rather just stay home curled up on the couch except adulting is a thing. It’s like that meme “I don’t want to adult today. I want to dog.” I’m looking at my 2 dogs sleep on their dog bed without a care in the world.

Today, in session, I used one of my guinea pigs peeing on the other as an analogy for something. Dr. T seemed amused by it, but said it was an apt analogy. It was more about how the peed-on pig will expect it to happen, so jumps back, even though it doesn't happen most of the time. (The one doing the peeing aims it like from a water gun--I was stunned the first time I saw it! Both female pigs, incidentally.)

It's 2:30 am and I can't sleep because I am watching live performances of Fleetwood Mac. YouTube is a curse. Stevie on the other hand is my new heart throb (I realise I am forty years behind time). She was/is a delightful nut job. Next up, I discover the other new kids on the block - Creedence Clearwater Revival.

I love Stevie and CCR too! H & I saw John Fogerty in concert a couple years ago or so. It was a heck of a good show!

Watch Grace Slick's (Jefferson Airplane) performance of "White Rabbit" at Woodstock. She was awesome back in the day. She doesn't perform anymore though I don't think.

It sounds like a cozy corner of the internet, where people just chat about life, share little joys and problems. A kind of virtual "resting room," where you can pop in with a cup of coffee, sit down, read, respond to someone else's story, or simply remain silent.

There’s something very warm and familiar about it. Like an old sofa at your grandmother's house, a little sagged, but still comfortable to sit on. Or like a book you reread, not because of the plot twists, but because it exudes a sense of peace.

Do you like places like that? Where you can just be yourself without any noise or expectations?

Welcome!

You've pretty much nailed the point of the Couch.
This is my favourite such place.

Hope you have a great Thursday.
