Last week we were talking about Easter and how it was when I was growing up. I told her I got an Easter basket and an Easter outfit and she asked if I still got an Easter basket and I replied no I'm too old. She kind of got indignate and said you are never to old for an Easter basket I want you to make yourself an Easter basket this year. Why would she do this? I have been looking at the Easter baskets at walmart wanting to buy one pre made but then decided I will make my own but don't know what to put in it. Any ideas?

LOL. One of the first things I made sure my husband understood was that I had to have a chocolate bunny every year for Easter!
i
There were 5 children in my family and my stepmother got creative; we each got a basket with little things in it that we would like personally; kind of like what we might get in our Christmas stocking but we usually also got a "big" gift. I still remember the year we came downstairs and there were 5 different colored ribbons on the stair bannister, one for each of us and we had to look for that color ribbon to find a "hint" that would tell us where to look next. It was a scavenger hunt of sorts for each of our big gifts. One brother had to look for a note in the dryer I remember :-) My big gift that year was a live bunny rabbit who was behind a drape.

I would hard boil some eggs and decorate them too; we always had an egg or two in our basket? And I'd have a chocolate bunny and lots of jelly beans. There's lots of little miniature things at dollar stores; go look at what grabs your imagination at a dollar store?

Thanks guys. I had planned on going to the dollar store. More bang for the buck so to speak anyway. I am going to color eggs. My family always has a gathering that includes hiding eggs and I dyed some last year and wanted to start the tradition with Rex so we are going to do it again this year I just need to remind him. I also need to get to Walmart to pick up the dye kit I think I saw a Tye dye one I wanted to try.

I guess I'm still at a loss as to why I'm supposed to do the basket in the first place. My friend Michelle is going to go with me to pick out the stuff for my basket.

My husband said I always made the best Easter baskets for our kids. What I put in them:
fake grass, jelly beans, a large chocolate bunny, little chocolate eggs (foil wrapped), peeps, malt balls, gummi worms, Easter colored M&M's, I always put a new toothbrush (ha), a paperback book or comic books, and I always bought those long strings of lollipops and wound them around the handle with a big bow.

I also always included some little trinket toys that I found that were interesting like paper airplanes, little matchbox cars (I had boys); so you might include some dollar store goodies for yourself like new socks rolled up or maybe you could put in new lipstick and perfume too? A grown up basket? Some nice skin cream...

Ohhhhh I could get carried away here.

I think your T might be hoping you'll get some memories of things you're missing from your childhood, from your response, "no I'm too old", like there's some rule somewhere that you can't love what you loved as a child, can't want love and care, etc. It's like there are two of you, the child and the grown up; I'd think about when the light switch was flipped? When did you become "too old". That seam doesn't need to be there, you can have a continuous stream of your life and move backwards and forwards in it as you desire, helping the child you with the adult sensibilities and cheering up the adult sensitibilities with the child, etc.

I remember a lot of good Easter memories. My mother liked to make her own candy. Her peanut butter eggs were the best. Our baskets were fill with all homemade stuff.

Unfortunately, I feel sad at Easter too, mainly because it was such a religious holiday in our home. These holiday make me feel guilty and like a bad mother. Although I've taken my kids to church and explained each of the holidays to them, they really don't understand what its all about. They think Jesus is in the same category as Santa. I've kind of failed them in the area of spirituality. My mother would be very disappointed with me in this regard. I know stop feeling guilty and drag the kids to church this Easter. The problem is when you drag them it defeats the purpose, at least it did for me as a kid.

when we lived at home Mama would fix baskets with hard boiled colored eggs, chocolate bunnies, peeps, jelly beans and a special one for the Diningroom table with dried fruit, so we got healthy stuff too
this year we're going to fix one for Tara, filled with doggie biscuts and treats

I plan on going to the store tonight to get the stuff for my basket but I'm still not sure why I am to do this. I might slip a toy in there for Tyger. I have to get a few groceries and plan on going down the Easter aisle and getting my stuff from there but don't know what I'm going to get I guess I will know when it hops in the cart.

Well I completed the assignment...I bought 3 bags of candy, a chocolate bunny, a stuffed animal bunny because the teddy bear I've been sleeping with has seen better days so now I will sleep with the bunny and they had edible easter grass so of course I had to get a bag of that. I have about 7.00 left over and am thinking about going to the dollar store tomorrow and picking up some nail polish and stuff like that.

Hehe, I remember on easter my dad would give us candy and stuff, but instead of giving us candy, my mom would give me a present instead. One time, she gave me a duck wearing a raincoat, a bunny wearing a Tutu, and a copy of "The Giving Tree" A wierd assignment from my T

Sadly, I no longer have the bunny or the book, but I still have the duck!
