I've had the same T for 7 years now. I've made some progress, but mostly I feel shut down. I had an incident a week and a half ago, and my T wasn't helpful. I knew then that it was time for a change.
I've seen one other T this past week, but didn't click with her. I have an appointment with another T to check her out on Tuesday. We'll see how it goes. I need a T who is more engaged and wants more from and for me. I know it's time, too, because I'm not freaking out about leaving current T. I see him for the last time next Wednesday. Just a wrap up session. Anyone else who's changed T's after such a long time have any advice?

I changed my T after 8 years. I had to switch Pdocs and when I met my new Pdoc I knew I wanted to do therapy with her. I hadn't been doing much work in therapy with the old T. I just knew it was time for a change.
I think you are doing the right thing. Once you find a new T you will be surprised at the difference.

I was going to switch my Pdoc but have decided not to do that. He went into private practice and doesn't take insurance anymore, so I'd have to pay and then send the bill to insurance. I don't think it would be a good idea to change T and Pdoc at the same time. Hopefully he'll take me back and get me by the end of August.
Eight years is a long time to be with a T. But if it's not working you've got to make a change. Glad it worked out for you. It already feels like I'm doing the right thing. I'm excited again about working on all this stuff. I know it won't be 'fun' but it'll feel good to make some progress again.
