Hello everyone
![]() I am 14, and have concerns for OCD, Avoidant, and Schizotypal Personality Disorder. They seem to be getting worse at the moment. I have written other posts concerning why I believe I have them. I know I have had OCD since I was 7. (There is too much info on these disorders to write here, but I already posted it all in my other posts). I tried telling my parents all of this, but they believe I will "grow out of it" or it's "not that bad" and my mother gets mad and screams at me; "well do you want me to get you locked up?". I just can't take it anymore, why can't I be normal? There is a bad stigma surrounding mental illness and it's almost impossible to talk about it at school. All they do is teach us about physical conditions, when a lot of psychological conditions are just as bad, if not worse. Anyway, I have had enouh. I feel tired of constant worrying and frustration, and I am in an important year at school. I want to tell school but I have no idea how. I have so much to talk about, and I don't know id they know all about Schizotypal and Avoidant etc. Should I write it all down? I've tried to talk to my parents for the past 2 years about OCD, but they won't listen. I started self harming because of the horrible images and thoughts in my head, and they still denied me help. What should I do/say? I really want to tell someone, but I don't know where to start. Thank you, take care ![]() |

You don't have Schizotypal Personality Disorder, you only can be diagnosed with a personality disorder at 18 or older.

Hmm, I've spoken with young teens who have been diagnosed with personslity disorders. Great, now I really don't know what to do. If you didn't know my age would you think the same? But thanks anyway I guess.

There are some exceptions of a diagnoses of a personality disorder under 18, but this is if it reaches their criteria and has a noticeable pattern someone with the disorder over 18 would have. If I didn't know your age, I wouldn't think the same, when you claimed you had an important school year coming up, I would assume you are a senior, since when was school at 14-15 important? Also, have you seen a psychologist and have been diagnosed with these? Or have you been internet-surfing on a briefly-informed website on these disorders and pranced around thinking you have it? Your mom must be quite ignorant thinking you grow out of it, this isn't a physical condition, it can be a brain abnormality or a neurological problem, which in many cases, are incurable but are treated. |

If that is the case, go on a resourceful mental health website, print out the page that reaches your certain criteria of how you feel and what signs and symptoms you may have and show it to your parents. Your parents should have the decency to take you to the doctor to get a checkup. Don't rush into concerns just yet, before we start having concerns for disorders, make sure it is true and to get it checked out. It could be anything, it can be a delusional disorder, anxiety disorder or schizophrenia. After being informed that your upcoming years are very crucial and important, it is absolutely essential to get all of this evaluated as you don't want any disturbances psychologically which can greatly affect your performance. If your parents still bring up the "it's just a phase" or "you'll grow out of it", inform them how it can be genetic and some are incurable but are highly treatable through medications and therapy. |

Hello WTTJ.
Woh...its alot to be going through at 14. Personality disorder (i hate that - disorder), we are not disordered in any way. As we grow we change in relation to our enviroment (btw i am a bad speller..lol). OCD is natural in some, it is in me to certain degree. Changing persona's is something (in my opinion), we can choose to do; or it happen's with out our 'knowledge'. Its a crappy thought that we can be transformed without our own awareness. As a 14 yr old, do not write down what you 'think' is happening (write what you know is happening). To do that (for others to read) maybe bad for your future. Keep journals but keep them to your self, so as not to be tagged or 'Labled' your self. A label is not that bad. It allows us to focus on our 'so - called' disorders. Your parents are behaving like most would - 1st denial, 2nd 'Worry', 3rd - how to treat you and how to see you. Its natural for parents to deny any 'again'- 'so- called' "Illness" with their own child. You consentrate on school and your future for you. You are so young. You have the world as your oyster, I guess what I'm trying to say is - 'Play the game of the acceptance of whats happening' (in all ways). I have to say though that getting into self harm is Deff - 'Not' an Ans. Self harm will only bring you more pain, which you do not need. ![]() I hoped this helped in any way. ![]() Take good care. S

![]() One of the main problems is I am losing grasp on reality, and I know that for a fact. I KNOW my soul was not born here, it was born in my world, in another dimension, world and universe. I feel like I KNOW the meaning of life, the universe that my soul got stuck in. I can sense spirits and people, and I even have "imaginary friends" whom I talk to. Especially Fate, my Wolf spirit, he is my best friend. I am becoming more withdrawn and distant, and it is worsening my school work. I don't know. I just can't relate to anyone on Earth. ![]() |

You have to tell your parents one way or the other and demand for a psychologist, you can take a few tests but do know that these are not real diagnosis tests and it should tell you somewhere on the website, if it doesn't then it isn't as legitimate. Instead, print out your results and show it to your parents with all the questions you've answered. You might feel this is normal parental-behavior and probably so do others but I see it as condescending and very neglectful. But, parents can also assume that you don't need it because of your behavior at home, if they see you as a typical teenager with normal behavior they will not be able to scrutinize you. From me saying that don't go changing your attitude into a person who has escaped from a mental institution, but parents do depict their judgements based on what they. Your objectives: Take a few tests on the disorders you are worried about and print them and your results. Do some researching on some legititmate website such as this one on the disorder you and I have listed. If need to, request an appointment to see your school counsellor to refer you to a psychologist under your parents consent. Your parents wouldn't say no to the counsellor, trust me. - |

I would ask your mother to take you to your medical doctor for a checkup. If she refuses, tell the school nurse or a guidance counselor you believe you have mental health issues that are interfering with your schooling and that your parents will not help you by taking you to the doctor. It is possible they can write an official note home and request your mother to take you to the doctor; you then tell your doctor everything and see where the chips fall.

I took the schizophrenia test on here and it said I have a high risk of developing it, but I just don't hallucinate. As for the other online personality tests, I scored "very high" on Avoidant, Schizotypal, Paranoid and Borderline and high for OCD. http://www.4degreez.com/misc/persona...sorder_test.mv And for this one I got 90% schizotypal -> http://similarminds.com/personality_disorder.html I know it's natural to associate yourself with symptoms you see on the net, but when you can relate to almost all of them, it gets a bit worrying. Thank you for your advice also, I'm going to talk to my school councellor next week when school starts again. |

The reason your losing touch with reality is because of eternal-fantasy influences that drift you into a so called "mode" and this is when you imagine and begin talking to your voices. The cause of this? It isn't entirely sure but they say it is genetic and has something to do with the brain's reward centre (dopamine) having abnormalities. Dopamine can cause hallucinations and pleasure. It was good you have took the tests now print them and show them to your parents and your counsellor next week. - Look up the types of schizophrenia there is one known as; paranoid schizophrenia which can fit the spot in your concern. We are going to manifest all possibilities and I'm going to help you with this because I know how this all feels. |

I do have bad "friends". "No" for example. I am sure I can sense his presence because I feel uneasy/scared/worried when he is around. I feel like they follow me everywhere, but i forget about them so they are not a constant problem. What made me think i was schizotypal was some sufferers have unwanted thoughts/images. I have had these since the age of 7 and was always looking for an answer. So I thought i had OCD (as i also have compulsions, perfectionism, false memories etc). What frightens me is, I always have this feeling of paranoia, and my world feels so real to me. Like i know all of the small facts about it, and I can visit whenever I want. I'm really worried and scared about all this. ![]() |

There is a part of me that doesn't want to tell my parents. I know I have to but I terrified of rejection, and it's happened so many times before (them not believing me), and I think talking to school would be better because they don't know me like my parents do. |

Hello WTTJ.
Please in all this don't lose sight of the fact you are still growing. Its at about 20ish we have fully developed minds/brain. With the right influence from a T or someone, you can realise just what you are here on earth. You talked of sensing spirits and voices in your head - the only thing I guess I can say is 'the world is big and strange and oppressive, but also beautiful'. You are still developing, learning, working out the 'way of the world' (thats a good play btw by Congrieve) Seek help if you think you need it. Self harm is deff something you should talk about to parents and T. Self harm is not an ans for confusion. It leaves a scar on the mind as well as the body. Please take care WTTJ. (btw........happy new year). ![]() S

Being diagnosed and actually having it are two totally different things...

And to the poster, I'm sorry you have to go through this, and I'm sorry your parents are ignoring you...That's a doggone shame what they are doing...THIS is a HUGE reason why you see so many school aged kids killing themselves...And you mean to tell me that these parents had no idea that their kids were feeling so bad that they felt the need to kill themselves? I don't buy it.... Ignoring red flags...
Moving along, I would say to speak with the counselor at your school...Or maybe someone in your family, an adult, that you are close to and that you can trust...

I think i will speak to the school councellor. I love my parents with all my heart, but their inabilty to understand makes me not trust anyone. At least with an adult at school I won't see them everyday...and when I leave school in four years I won't have to see them again. |

They don't do many underage diagnosis because adolescence is the time your personality is changing constantly and hasn't reached its adulthood which means it is unlikely but not impossible. Oh, and I don't think they are two different things.. I mean, you have to have it to be diagnosed with it, unless it is a misdiagnosis. |
