life with a stupid coworker

So I'm one half of a two-person office. Other guy is pleasant enough, has been there a long time (which says something -- it's kind of the "starter" job for this paper and people who are any good are out of it in a couple years), I've felt the need to be wary about what I disclose to him, but I don't totally hate his guts or anything.

We have an office digital camera. Both of us can use it, but the photos can only be uploaded through his computer.

Apparently he hates my guts. I discovered this this afternoon when he left his email up and open to one from the person I replaced, who moved to the main office and to whom he is very close (and secretly in love with, though she's too dense to see it and he won't say so). As he saw me move toward his desk to upload photos, he didn't think to close his email, or move it to another one.

So, he left for the day, and I sat there and uploaded the photos I'd taken earlier this afternoon and read about all the things he hates about me. Furthermore, I read the responses from this other person, who has on the surface, anyway, tried to be very friendly and welcoming to me.

It's nothing that couldn't be solved by his SPEAKING UP, but it irks me both that he's doing this behind my back and that she's supporting him.

Two-faced people suck.

So now, armed with this knowledge -- what's my next step? Do I call him on it? Do I call HER on it? Do I stuff it and do nothing?

Did you print a copy of the email? I wonder what the boss would think to know he's wasting company time emailing and dissing you???

I also have to wonder if he left it open for a reason???? Maybe looking to see what you would do about it.

If nothing else, I think I would speak to the Human Resource person about it. It is nothing short of harrassment in my mind. If you are feeling uncomfortable about this situation, then you have every right to speak up. If it's not harrassment, it certainly could be creating a hostile work environment which is also illegal as is harrassment.

send him an e-mail asking him what should you do about a " problem happening in an office like yours" then ask him what he would do about it

You said two faced people irk you... so confront him with it. HE left it up and public for you to read. I see where you did nothing wrong. Any other actions might make you two=faced appearing Go for it, and work through this once and for all, if possible. Try not to call him names etc, so that you still have done nothing wrong but try to fix a problem he has (((hugs)))
