i really wasnt sure where to post this....

i say "Lucifer" ( or sometimes "satan" ) not "the devil" or "evil spirit". ive had people point out that i call him by his name and they were a little uncomfortable with it.

what do you think?

is "Lucifer" too personal and nice?

does it matter to you?

just thought i'd ask....get another opinion on this one....

I don't see anything wrong with calling him by the name God gave him. If someone has a problem with it, maybe they have a bit of denial going?

I usually say "the devil" or "Satan" but that's because I forget that his name was Lucifer before he got cast out of Heaven. the devil ***possible trigger??***

i think it upsets some people because ..like....when you call someone by their name...seems like youre on a personal level with them?

know what i mean?

Could be .... they are in denial... that to call him by his name.. scares people.. like whoa... there he is.. and perhaps.. I will call attention to me...and he will start to "mess" with me... with my life.. ya know..

It doesn't bother me..... my own faith protects me....

well i suppose.. i only found out about SRA few days ago i'd never heard of it before then, and i wont downplay something if it triggers someone even if it seems small or insignificant...

but as far as people who havent gone through that..i dont understand the problem.

should i not use "Lucifer" on PC at least for those with SRA?

To be honest Gab it's getting to the stage where I am sick of religion being mentioned on a lot of forums here...I'm really past caring......it's a personal thing....this is a spiritual forum which tends to be mainly christian though that's not what is is there for...it's for everyone....

Not long ago there was a thread that said a certain percentage of British and Us people where Christian, the other percentage just sit down....well....there's tolerance for you.....getting rather tedious if you ask me....people should live and let live....

well im not christian, ive nothing against christians. i wasnt so much concerned with offending people over religion with the "Lucifer" issue because thats something not everyone believes in. i mainly concerned about those whom it may trigger..and whether it sends off the wrong signal to everyone else about me.

oh as far as some who treat this site like it's for Christians only, i really disagree with that concept because PC is (or is meant to be) for everyone.

Gabe..

Lucifer is a Roman name meaning "morning star" and the Romans used it to denote the planet Venus. As a god, he was the son of Eros, the "dawn bringer" and in the Book of Isaiah the name is included in a list of titles of the Babylonian king. It's only Dante and Milton that changed it into another name for Satan

I don't think it matters what you call the head devil, he is what he is. "Lucifer" is kind of a romantic name to me, almost a euphemism. I just don't always expect to hear it so sometimes it "startles" me.

Gabriel,

I think that using the name "Lucifer" is acceptable but Perna is correct in her comment that Lucifer is a Roman name meaning "morning stat" etc.

I believe that the triggers on here are long and numerous. We do our best to avoid them but there is alway one sitting out their that we just didn't catch.

When I see the name "Lucifer," the first thought that comes to my mind is "LUCY, you got some 'splainin' to do!"

Sorry, I used to like the "I Love Lucy" show. I'm not a Christian, but from what I've heard about your Lucifer - the same statement might apply.

Lucifer was the most beautiful angel in heaven and God made sure of this by spoiling him/her, I think something was said along the lines that he/she was draped in silver and gold and was the music in heaven but would have to research this to be sure.....this is usually what I think of when I hear Lucifer...Satan is usaully used after the fact IMO after Lucifer was cast out...when he/she wanted to take over heaven..never actually read anything lucifer did bad in heaven other than want to be God after God put him on his highest pedestal..or be worshiped himself like God...mabey not actually be God just worshiped as well

also over 1/3 of the angles were cast out with Lucifer since apparently they started to admire his/her talents and beauty, that God give him/her..had to edit to add this the devil ***possible trigger??***

don't bother me one bit

many many times Lucifer is called son of the morning, son of dawn, morning star hence the Roman translation as Perna mentioned..so I guess "he" is a male type being...never really understood why angles are classified as he or she if they did not have genitals...never thought about this before...but have heard many people mention Satan tempting men as a women

i think Satan represents an aspect of human nature... those things that are tempting... and within the nucleus of Satans existence, is the pathway to higher transendence..

well, Lucifer is a survivor... as well as an icon and other things... i think in a way, he kinda represents the underdog of the Bible.. i always liked underdogs myself... but i'm careful with this one..

i think i have a healthy understanding about it, but, it worries me when i see some who present Satan as the hero... maybe he's more of an anti-hero? from a literary viewpoint i mean... there's no question in my mind at all who the good guy is...

Satan is definantly no hero....I'd not admire him ever, but do have compassion for the fact that he never had a choice in being "created", to serve the purpose he serve's well...

he has no control over anything.....he just serves his purpose....then Jesus say's in the bible we are supposed to show love to those that hate us,but on the contrary teaches to hate/fight Satan or the purpose he serves....so where is the line drawn

Coral, good question... here is my opinion... the Bible would like us to think about the issue of love/hate... it seems to contradict, but in my mind i see more of a circular cycle... we develop love for God and goodness, knocked back again by evil and harmfulness... to connect agian with love, with re-newed strength, o face again the evil..

it is a spiral in ways... building strength, feeling weakend, building strength, being weakened...

the point is, each time we build strength, we weaken the Devils position...

i agree, Satan serves a purpose.. to aspire us to reach higher each time we fall...

eventually, we build enough strength that Satan loses his grip on us...

evil is represented in other religious texts... i, myself, prefer not to be penned in by only reading and learning from one text... forgotten knowledge is still useful... and, imo, preferable... just some basic beliefs, that good is good; bad is bad.... why complicate it?

the perpetual circle......Ya I can see this view ...even though temptation remains Satan eventually will lose to those that aspire to achieve honesty, compassion, and even just the basic moral fiber so many lack....even those that never heard of a bible...people that I think alot don't even realize still exist, even aspire to fight evil and temptation...without even the basic comforts of life that we have at our disposal

I actually lost my respect for King James's version, not after seeing how contrary it was....but studying James as a man
He has such a picture painted of him as a great man.....but what about all the people that he let die during his approved witch hunts...and reference to this type of killing being ok in the bible

I aspire to follow a greater power than myself.....I have no title for my believe's ...and have never stopped trying to sift through them yet

thats why open minded discussion such as these attract me
