The next one is just another intake type appointment? Piece of cake. Nothing bad's going to happen.

Well, honey, I don't think anybody can help you but yourself.
But maybe there's something a bit fortunate in this? Now you have a few days - and five days really isn't much! - to think over what you want from them. You can think up a plan to go in with! Even if you ask for things they don't give, the least they can do is say 'no' or tell you where else you might try.

Ok these things always start with the basics - name, age, date of birth, etc. They might take your weight and height (sometimes they do, sometimes they don't).

They'll ask you about your symptoms, and what concerns you in your life.
They're probably going to go through your medical history, both physical and mental.

They might ask you about past interaction with psychiatry. Maybe they'll ask you what you've been diagnosed with, what drugs you've taken.
You don't have to know everything that's ever happened; but obviously the more you know, the better. They're not going to punish you if you don't know your whole medical history.

They might take some blood tests, measure your BP.

And remember: if there is anything that makes you uncomfortable, you have a right to refuse it.

Have you got any more questions? I used to help people through these all the time.
It might be a bit different over there in the US, but it can't be extremely different!

I don't know if you qualify for case management. For starters, I don't know how it works in your area! I also don't know you very well yet. (I like getting to know you, though )

I don't think therapy is a "need", for starters because therapy doesn't work unless YOU want it to work. Do you want therapy?? Is there anything you would like to talk to a professional about? I think that therapy can benefit anybody, nutter or not, at one point in their life.
Do you know how therapy works, or anything about the different kinds of therapy?

Well, if you don't abuse drugs or alcohol, why does it matter if they tell your father?

My psych dr was helpful yesterday. He helped me feel less worthless. I still feel worthless sometimes, but now I feel happy to breath fresh air and smell bark mulch. There are landscapers outside working. My wife trusts me and my step-son listens to me and trusts me enough to get by living under the same roof. He is succeding in school. He plans on the Navy after graduation from HS. I think my life is manageable currently. WOrk is good also, both jobs.
Thanks for this!

Well, I'm obviously here because I've been here most of the day . . .
I just wanted to say that I am one angry ***** and I think I need better coping strategies for this. I've tried anger management books but they're not really relevant because I don't lash out physically . . . and I'm stuck.

I just finished reading The Cow in the Parking Lot: A Zen Approach to Overcoming Anger. It was pretty good.

I need to read this kind of thing regularly - to keep it at the front of my mind - otherwise I slide right back into anger. I think I must be improving, though. This morning I wrote my son a really sarcastic text message. Then I didn't send it. Came here to complain instead.

Hope you feel better soon, hon.

Haha, excellent. I love Buddhist thought and I have a special affinity to cows and a special place in my personal hell for parking lots. Thanks for that

Is it OK if I start a 'self-help books' thread?
I love self-help books and I'm always looking for new ones.

Sounds good to me. I wonder if it can be pinned to the top.

Edited to add: There may actually be such a list somewhere else on the site. I don't know.

He starts with a story. Suppose you're in a parking lot about to pull into a space when some guy zooms in and parks there first. How do you feel?

Then suppose it's the same thing except instead of a guy in a car, a cow walks into the space. How do you feel?

Then he spends to the whole book trying to change the way you feel about the guy stealing your spot. Me, I'm still angry about the guy, but I guess our grasp should exceed our reach.

Angry that I'm driving a car in the first place :P

I feel like my anger runs a lot deeper than daily annoyances like people stealing my parking space. :-/

I would likely assume I am the only one seeing the cow, because it would be an unusual occurrence. Just in case though, I wouldn't try to park there. I would park somewhere where I could still see the cow, and try to ascertain if other people are also seeing it. If they were, then I guess I'd be looking up the number for animal control to see if someone could come get it before it gets hit by a car. I might be inclined to offer it water if I could find a suitable container. I might name it.
Thanks for this!
