I had a certain subset of toys etc I used for tactile stimulation like silly putty an ammonite fossil that was polished etc I have no idea why I needed to feel things when I was getting better but I saw it as relearning things I did as a child to correct/rewrite the neural pathways. Anyway you could try tactile stimulation of various sorts and let us know if it works...

I think it does have to correspond with the pathway of input, at least for me. I use headphones and radio to help with the auditory, still working on the visuals, but sometimes strobe lights and blinking help make it less intense.

The problem with tactile is that in the past I have unintentionally hurt myself while trying to stop them in the past. And the ones I've been having recently happen all over.

Definitely don't hurt yourself maybe try something like putting you hand in jello of play dough or something weird maybe even blindfold yourself to focus more on feeling things and trying to ID them around the house...I was actually thinking about starting sort of a cabinet of curiosities for this very thing....maybe try rubing an ice cube over yourself...what would be cool is learning Braille because that would require touch and concentration and you'd be learning something too.

Maybe try a cold shower? For a strong but safe sensation that would be all over? Or maybe try a cream that causes sensation like icy hot, you could spread it on several areas around your body.
(I don't know if that would work, but its my best suggestions: ) )

So I found this site for Alzheimer's they had a lot of suggestions for tactile stimulation including massage a faux beach and they sell a box of weird textured balls but talk about sandpaper carpet etc...

Also I have no idea if you have one but I saw a study in nature where they were using a vibrator to mask visual input so that might be something you could use wherever you were feeling things...if not then maybe an electric toothbrush...

Tactile stimulation can suppress visual perception : Scientific Reports : Nature Publishing Group

You could also try taking a bath with a sea sponge or a brush of some sort but I like gr3tta's idea of a cold shower especially if you have an adjustable shower head.

I actually had a filthy mind too and was going to suggest masturbation as a great tactile exercise but I wasn't sure how old you were and when I was psychotic I just could not get off at all so I didn't want to suggest it if there was a chance it wouldn't work for you....

Also I just found this blog entry about how people with sz can actually tickle themselves...now that would be an experience and would certainly be distracting...

I'm 18 for future reference. Which many still consider a child, but whatever.

TMI WARNING:
I'm not a particularly sexual person, though. I've tried things but it doesn't do anything special for me.

I'm actually kind of afraid that my hallucinations will go in that direction. When I was 11-14 I used to see ghosts and thought that was normal. There was a male one who would show up when I was in the bathroom, especially showering. The last time I saw him, I was in the shower and opened my eyes and he rushed me, horror-movie style. Then just disappeared.

I've heard of people having tactile hallucinations of being raped and I really don't want that (obviously).

I actually had that without ever having sex before so it's like my body just filled in the blanks but then if I can have a fake heart attack why not that too? So I had PCOS till I was 25 so I rarely had a period and thus no masturbation till 25 when all my hormones kicked in...then it was intuitive and fun but hasn't been normal since the psychosis...thought it was the meds but it still sucks now. oh guess I should have put a TMI warning too...oh well

The meds have helped me no ends. It was only when i got up to therapeutic dose did they dissipate. Also , smoking , causes a rise in my symptoms. So maybe you could try an ecig for 2 weeks and see do you see an improvement. Tactile symptoms have long being associated with toxicity in non psychotics.

A combination of an antipsychotic with an antidepressant or anticonvulsat maybe useful. But you would probably trade with an increase of side effects or potential interactions. Depends how bad these symptoms are and if it is really worth it.

Try the ecig thing , if you are already a smoker , that is

There maybe also be a vitamin/natural option. rhodiola is something i came across lately...
Thanks for this!
