That's great news well done for finding it. You never know it might have been fine in the wild if it was already feral but I guess it's just the risk of it dying is sad

I think that's called dissociation when that happens. I get that and depersonalization which feels like everything around you isn't real and things look really strange. Dissociation feels like your not in your body or when you look in the mirror it doesn't look right. Correct me if I'm wrong though

And sorry that your not sleeping enough, is that because you don't have your sleeping meds?

If you can't get your ambien/Xanax until a certain date can you get a script for like lunesta or something to tide you over? Call your doc and leave a message to see what she can do for you....

My neighbor's dog has killed 7 or 8 of my chickens. One time I caught him in the act. If I would have had a gun, I'd have shot him in a heart beat. But I don't like guns and don't own any. I'm glad I didn't have one, because I'd have felt bad later if I'd killed the neighbor's pet. They've never apologized for any of the chickens, even though I see them kind of as pets too. And they've never paid me a dime. And I don't like them much. But it would still suck to have killed someone's pet.

I woke with a killer migraine this morning. I didn't sleep well last night so I'm sure that didn't help.

I agree. Our local shelter is a no-kill shelter run by animal fanatics, and they don't adopt out feral cats. If they got one, they'd probably put it down. I don't see any policy on their website, but I've visited their cat room many times and never saw a feral cat. I used to volunteer there, and on the tour we passed a cage with a feral cat in it. This was a long time ago, so I can't remember what they said they'd do with it, but they did say it wouldn't be adopted. I don't know if they have a spay and release program.

I like Buddhist stuff too. Pema Chodron and Thich Nhat Hahn mostly, but it's not what I'd call "inspirational." It's mostly pretty challenging stuff.

When you bought the Siamese cat from the flea market back in September of 2013 it was four months old. Aztec should be about a year old now. Siamese cats are great and desire a lot of attention from their owner. I bet he would find a home pretty quickly since he is still young. He is a beautiful cat:

I've been on edge all day. The slightest noise makes me jump. I was sat talking to my new potential tutors when I visited college, and I felt like getting up and running and never stopping. The feeling is starting to calm down. But it's awful. Like something bad is going to happen and I don't know what it is.

On the plus side, in September I'll be starting a college course that's made for people with mental health issues. It's a more relaxed course than others and people are generally nice there.

Ok, I read this post and I had to go all the way back to find the story about the homeless guy, and I got drawn into the dumping cats, shooting dogs conversation.

jD, be careful with letting people into your car! Actually most people aren't going to hurt you IMO. Maybe you could have taken the phone into the car and tried the charger, although I suppose if he had some bad plans for you, he could have still got you.

A year or so ago I was picking up my dog at doggie dog care. There were a couple of young men in there asking for a drink of water. The clerk said 'no' even though they have a water cooler right there.

They followed me out to the parking lot and asked for help. They were in their early 20s. It was over 100 degrees out. There were no businesses nearby. And their faces were bright red. Sometimes you just can't say 'no' and keep your good conscience.

So they sat all the way to the back of my Fit with my Great Dane between them and me, and I drove them a few miles up the road to a gas station. They told me they were hitchhiking and walking some godawful distance - Ohio to California? Anyway, sometimes you have to take a risk so you can face yourself in the mirror later.

My dad's policy was to help anyone he ran across who was stranded. One time a fellow tried to hit him over the head. Luckily my dad wasn't all the way out of his car yet, so he just fell back into the driver's seat, slammed the door shut, and took off driving. When he told me mom, she asked, "So are you going to stop picking up stranded motorists and helping people?" He answered, "No, I'll still stop for anyone who needs help."

No... I just get really anxious at times. And when I can't handle a situation I run away from it.

That's really nice...I would have just driven up the road to buy them some water and brought it back though...my policy for stranded people is to call the cops...no one is getting into my car period. This may be a city vs rural thing though...

One more thing on the dog shooting issue if no one minds.

I live in the country in a county where the rule is there's no leash law, dogs are allowed to roam, but if they're aggressive others can shoot them. Where I live it's been a long-standing tradition for all the dogs to be allowed out to run, and I always just turn my dogs out when they have to potty. Mostly they're in the house with me, but I don't walk them on a leash, for example, or have a fenced yard for them.

Recently I've been increasingly worried that someone will shoot them. Bridey never used to go out for long, just out to do her business then right back in. She goes to doggie day care for exercise. But now that I have Zeke too, they go out and are gone for up to an hour. I'm not sure where they are. None of the near neighbors would shoot them, I don't think, but I worry they may be going a long distance and someone who doesn't know them might shoot them. Technically you can't shoot them unless they're being aggressive, but you could just lie and say they were attacking. They're big dogs. The cops would believe it. Or just toss the bodies away. Who would know?

So now I mostly let them out in the area I have fenced in for the chickens. And I take them to the dog park more. And of course there's doggie day care.

I'm still letting them out the back door at about 5 am every morning, though, and I do worry about them. So far they've come back every time - knock wood - but there are people out there like newtus's neighbor who wouldn't hesitate to shoot.

I always imagine they're running miles away, but when I look out they're right there in the trees behind my house or even lying in the back yard. It still preys on my mind.
