My psychiatrist leads a local ACT team. She preaches good diet, exercise, and community involvement along with psychiatric treatment.

ACT is comprehensive. They really get involved in your care and even do home visits. The emphasis is rehabilitation and living in the community. A variety of activities are offered to the clients as well such as cooking classes.
If a client wants to work or go to school they will help with that.

There is no time limit for ACT. It is available to a client as long as they require it.
Thanks for this!

my therapist also said she wanted to "clear the air" today and asked me why do i ask her about where she lives and what car she drives and so on and so on. and i said "you know everything about me. and that makes me nervous" and she said "well this is a professional relationship. its my job to know about you".

some Ts are "blank slates" and dont offer any personal information about themselves. the truth is , it is a professional relationship, and it is her job to know about u. she doesn't have to tell u anything about herself. but some Ts disclose more than others. my T is pretty open to me. but i dont ask a lot of personal questions. its not my place. therapy is about me, not him

it just makes me nervous that she knows all about me and i know nothing of her. thats all. it just makes me nervous. like im opened up in a relationship without knowing about the other person.

well the relationship between a T and a client is not a normal every day relationship. there has to be boundaries and there is a power differential

Eh...I see the benefits...my first pdoc would sometimes go on about himself for like five minutes...I would just look at my watch and be like I'm paying for this(not aloud of course).

I found in general that knowing on some level that they are oriented toward good for me was enough....also if you don't have any transference like with my cbt T you really don't care..it special and all about you like a birthday dinner

Today went well. In reading class we had a questionnaire on how we think of others, how we look at friends, etc. an example of one of the questions: you can tell a lot about a person by the way they dress... Agree, not sure, or disagree. My question is what that had to do with building reading skills and discerning meaning from text, more specifically identifying elements of fictional text. When I asked this she ignored my question entirely. I am suspicious...

That power differential can make therapy shaky. I found once I started to trust my psychiatrist, who is my therapist, it lessened and eventually went away. Putting oneself in a vulnerable position is not easy at all. I ended up taking a break from therapy so I could think about it. After I returned our relationship changed. I can talk to her about anything now.

Sometimes she shares a little bit about herself which lets me see her human side. For example she briefly told me about her university experience. This makes it easier for me to respond to her. Of course there are boundaries. I don't know anything personal. We definitely don't touch and hug. She doesn't give me gifts and nor do I.

I consider my therapist to be a mentor (especially for social skills) and a teacher.

I hope she doesn't visit this website.
If she did she would recognize me.
Thanks for this!

Well many books go to great length to describe how characters look and dress...if you disagree then that's just wasted space....

I however tend to agree and thus I'll react in a different way to someone dressed in a suit vs rags....an elf vs human....whatever the stereotype may be is usually important in a book.

An entire book was written about the letter A stitched on a woman's clothes....

She probably didn't want to tell you the answer as it would impact the way you did the assignment...
