That's much too high to start on. They should have started you on 2 mg. And worked up slowly to what they thought you should be on.

That happened to my daughter on abilify. I can't remember what they called it, but her head would go back and cock to the side, and her mouth made weird expressions. She was then put on Geodon and that works great.

Isn't it called Tardive Dyskenisia or however it's spelled.

I took Abilify, 5mg and got akathisa and became manic on it. Then I got switched to something else now I'm on Invega Sustenna 117mg monthly injection and it's amazing.

Had a bad experience with Seroquel too

The same thing happened to me on abilify, I had to go to the A&E to get muscle relaxers IV (like diazepam or something). My jaw was nearly out of place it was that bad, though I did leave that hospital floating on a cloud with the amount of benzo's they gave me lol!

Yes. That's what it's called. Seroquel xr has been the best out of anything for me. But even that barely does anything for me.

I had to do that with geodon. I forget what they call it. But where you're extremely inner restless. It was my entire body and I was on the verge of starting to hurt myself to feel anything else.

Idk...10mg is the starter dose for psychosis...for my doc I went 5 mg one day ie half a pill then up to ten....I think it depends on your doc.

Well, I've officially moved back to my college town. I'm experiencing a lot of anxiety and anticipation of loneliness... I'm drinking lemon tea and listening to Christian music to help cope with it. I ordered a pizza and cheese sticks for dinner that will hopefully feed me for a few days. I'm excited for it to get here.

I am currently staying in a hotel suite, looking for permanent housing. I toured one potential apartment today. It was beautiful. On the 11th floor, looking out over the lake and the city. But there is no more parking available, and they need an answer concerning whether or not I'll take it by tomorrow, and...I don't feel ready to sign a lease yet. I want to see if I like my job first. My parents keep telling me that I can always quit and move back home if I don't like it and haven't signed a lease yet. As much as I hope I don't have to do that, it is nice to have the option. I'm proud that I drove all the way up here today. I'm doing pretty well, just so nervous.

If they start low it minimizes the chances of weird side effects as described earlier in the thread.

Yay for the adventure, boo for the anxiety....

I've only seen them start low if it's your first AP.....if you're already on an AP they need to factor in withdrawal so they keep an equivalent dose across agents. At least this is what I've seen happen.

I've always been started on low doses of ap and slowly increased. The only aap that gave me movement disorders after awhile (note, NOT at the start) were Risperdal and Seroquel.

But, when I was put on Stelazine when I was 19, I had terrible dystonia because they were incompetent assholes who didn't start me off slowly on a low dose.

It sounds like I've been on meds most of my life but I haven't been, except for benzos. Although the older I get the more it approaches just half of my life. I went off most of the ap drugs not long after starting them because they don't work for my core problem. But I do need ap now since developing the new psychosis 6 years ago.

Man, my doc hasn't increased my dose of risperidone even though he said he would, and the reason why is because I'm having higher prolactin levels. Besides the prolactin though, I feel just fine on risperidone, and it's working pretty well for my symptoms, so I can't say I know what he should do.

This is my first time ever going through MHMR. I had a therapist once who told me I should drop my dads insurance and go through MHMR to live in a group home..
