Try this link...

Phase III trial results show cariprazine effective in treating negative symptoms associated with schizophrenia

Thanks that one worked! Certainly promising that they may be making a breakthrough in a drug whose mechanism treats negative symptoms. I'm sure if it pans out it'll open the doors for other similar medications.

Yeah and phase III is late in trials----it looks like its actually under review by the FDA right now, not sure about overseas though. I would certainly be curious although it doesn't appear to be weight neutral----I guess you can't have everything.

Yeah I had no idea this one was even in the pipeline most of the ones for negative symptoms I've seen act through binding the glycine regulatory site on NMDA. Therefore they would be add ons rather than APs but its nice to have a single drug that blocks +/- symptoms together. I have no idea how it works though....

Are any of those other drugs out yet? Are they like Wellbutrin or something?

There is sarcosine which is sold as a nutritional supplement but the actual medicine ones haven't made it out to market yet-----not like wellbutrin at all though.

nbritton wrote up some details on sarcosine, far more in depth than anything I would know and I haven't personally tried it....

Maybe I should try it, but it's probably really expensive. I would like to beat the negative symptoms though. The apathy is awful.

It's on my list to try if I start feeling negative symptoms again----I've only had them transiently......

I have terrible issues with motivation and apathy. It is really bad. I'd love to feel like maybe I could try to get something done.

Yeah---I distinctly remember having the feeling at work that I didn't want to do anything even if I would get fired----for me that was a very clear symptom----it was like the complete opposite of anxiety. It only lasted a few days for me but I just wanted to say I'm sorry that you're feeling that way.

Thanks. I feel that way both with and without anxiety. All I do literally is just sit on my bed all day and night. Everything I used to like doing is just a chore now. It's pretty bad.

i feel apathy with or without anxiety too. i dont think its the complete opposite of anxiety - i just think its apathy and lethargy. couple that with anxiety and its a horrible feeling.
