No. She thinks im trying to run away from the things in my life like this new guy and my ex and other stuff by just throwing myself into a brand new school. She thinks i need to focus on myself and take off this semester.

She wants me to goto more groups. I DONT WANT TO GO. Ugh.

Idk maybe that wasnt hypomania maybe it was true.
I follow a host of phd students and professors on my twitter and the suffering involved is tremendous. One woman, like me cracked, and turned into the black sheep of the program. One woman said that waiting 10 years would have been a good idea. I don't know how one can get letters of recommendation after 10 years though.

First things first though. Start at a community college and get 60 transferable credits from there with an associates degree relevant to your dream. Then go to the university. Take a class at a time if you have to until your fiananial aid thing can get fixed. I believe financial works on the percentage of dropped classes.

My dream is to get a philosophy degree. No one wants me to get it because they think its useless but im doing it for me. Not them.
You can do philosophy but you better be the best at your school at it. Also, your core philosophical tenets will determine which professors will take you seriously, and those relationships are vital to your survival in academia. Think about all the colleges and university philosophy students. Now think about how fiew teaching positions there are at those colleges and universities. Your only employment is at a college or university and all those philosophy majors want that job. It's as if there was a paradise island that only a few could make it to, and only a few could live off the land there but there are a wave after wave of people trying to swim there, however, there are protective barriers to keep people off the island or else it will be inhabitable. Chances of getting on that island are slim. I'm not trying to crush your dream, this is just the reality. So you have to be almost the best philosophy student they have, if not the best.

There are special exceptions for illness related issues I believe. You can even get your money refunded in a lot of circumstances. I would talk to a consular about this asap.

A lot of people tell me about jobs and this and that. Im not even really doing this for that. Maybe going to school is not the best option, but this degree is for me to enrich my life and thinking.

Keep in mind the classes at asu will likely be graded to a higher standard than a community college. I support you in this endeavor however given your gpa here is my question......if your grades fall due to the complexity of the new school will you be able to transfer back to your community college? I.e. Is there a grading cut off such as 2.0, just thinking you should have a back up plan....

As someone with a PhD I totally agree with this, unless your phd is from a top school think the likes of Harvard then it's hard to get a teaching position.

Then I can make good money and travel the world, do the things that I want to do. Go to the places where I want to be that are better than where I live now.

But this path just seems too simple for me.

Idk if I should wait it out at least a year which would be my clean time away from sunstances.

I plan to go through school with no Concerta either.
Those are good goals.

I wish the moderators wouldn't hold up your posts. By the time they approve a post, roll call is already 2 or so pages later. I miss your posts that way. I wish they'd do it differently.

Me too. I only see them if someone quotes.
Those sound like some good plans.

It's not An episode if it's your dream....but personally I would build up my gpa a bit before applying to a university...but that's me.

I have a 3.5 from u mich and I'm probably going to go to community college next year to retrain. I know I personally couldn't handle another phd program. I'm not sure where you're at cognitively but you have to take the gre for any phd and it's not easy. The math is advanced calculus etc.

Also like half of pc was supporting you....some of us are just a bit more cautious. Still I wish you luck if you Persue this...

Newtus, you have to talk to your consular before you just leave a class. You have a mental illness, so they have to work with you, otherwise it's discrimination. Maybe a consular can still help you. The philosophy department head is doing his best to give me a refund for the classes I had to drop due to my health.

Hey, I spent 6 years experimenting at a community college before I knew what I wanted to do. Then I tightened my grip and went to the university and mostly dominated. I don't recommend taking more than 12 credits a semester, but I do recommend taking 12 credits a semester if you want full financial aid.

Don't leave, newtus. Everyone here is behind you and your dreams. I don't know if you're in an episode but the more important the dream, the longer it can sometimes take, or be very complicated. I hope you will get the degree you want. Slow and steady wins the race.
