I've been fighting frequent tempting ideas in the last couple of weeks. Suicidal and self-mutilation ideas. Like I want to beat the ___ out of myself, or more tempting ideas hit hard & fast. Wanting to enter oncoming traffic at full speed, or drive off a cliff.
How can I control ideas like this, especially when they're kind of exciting? I seriously enjoy the images and am quite tempted! |

I wish I knew. I have the same feelings frequently. Maybe someone else can fill us in.

Hi Sannah,
Yes, I am in therapy. Both DBT and an individual psychologist. I have talked about my suicidal idealization automatic thoughts. The T's recommend that I follow distress tolerance skills to get me through the moment. Stay busy. I have found techniques to get me through an hour here and there, but how do I stop these automatic thoughts & temptations in the other hours of the days?? Next week's therapies won't be happening, due to the holiday, and I'm struggling. ![]() Shez |

Yes, stupidsminkle, I have thought about how my behavior might affect a couple of people that I care for. The thought of possibly hurting others simply increases my self-hate which then fuels the fire farther along. It's a vicious cycle

Acceptance comes to my mind too, acceptance of the thoughts (that they are there, not that you have to act on them!) instead of fighting them. ?????????

I have bad images in my head a lot. Sometimes they make me flinch because they come with such force into my head. Sometimes i SH because it stops those thoughts invading my head so forcefully. Is there anyway for damage control techniques?? I don't want to break any rules by saying this so i understand if this is edited. All i know is that it isn't the best way, but it helps me.
ps - exciting? i'm confused what do you mean...as in fun? |

It depends upon the day. Tuesdays & Thursdays go to appointments, the others are set aside to take care of my daughters. My ex and I are separated, I watch the girls around his varying schedule.
