Since coming home for college for the summer, my normal sleeping patterns have changed and I haven't been able to fall asleep until after 10 PM. And most times I haven't been able to wake up until around 11 AM.

I guess this is mainly due to the fact that since coming home I've done little besides being glued to my laptop aimlessly with alot of business thrown in. Even though at school I'm still stuck to my laptop.

But I'm just trying to get to sleep at night.

Any suggestions anyone?

hi, i no how you feel. not being able to sleep and then sleeping in late from triedness. being glued to your laptop alday is deff not going to improve your situation. have you tried the gym or even jus walks. i no it doesnt sound good advice but you need to give exercise time to work. regular walks sum wer green away from streets like in a park can work if you do it regulary. holistic massages like the indian head massage is good if you get that done bout once evry 2 wks. the only problem with that is it can be dear but will help. what ever you decide to do it will take time to work. i hope this helps sorry if it doesn't or if you hsve already heard it b4

You could develop a bedtime routine, where you eliminate the use of electronics shortly before you go to bed. I read that somewhere. Maybe a cup of sleepy tea, might help!

All the best of Luck

Ok I sometimes have a hard time falling asleep, too. And what I do, is I try to eliminate the usage of electronics shortly before I go to bed. Sometimes my thoughts keep me up at night, so I usually write how I feel in a journal, just to get my anxieties out of my head. I hope this helps!

All the best of luck!

Try relaxation techniques such as stretching for a few minutes then letting go, it makes you dead calm and ready to sleep.

I sometimes will purposely mess up my sleeping for a few days, either stay up really late for a few night but still get up at the same time. Or I will get up early in the mornings just to make myself tired. However doing stuff during the day really does work best. Whenever I do something during the day I am defiantly more tired at night (especially if the something is active, or has a long duration).

From reading this. This is a bigger problem for myself then people are making it out to be, as this has been going on for much of the summer night after night where I can't fall asleep until 12:30-2 in the morning. Which is causing me alot of stress since I need to wake up earlier to keep on schedule with my day. I mean it's past 1 where I am and I don't even feel tired!

set an alarm clock for 7 or 8 am and no matter what time you got to sleep get up whenit goes off, stay awake all day no matter how tired you get, do not eat anythin or drink sweet stuff after around 6pm and nothing other than a hot milky drink after 9pm, have a hot bath around 9pm , then go to bed, no tv, no computer no music, a book is ok for a little while but switch your light off at 10pm at the latest , close your eyes and keep them closed even if you can't sleep, you will soon get into the routine of falling asleep at 10pm if you follow this.
make sure your bedroom is dark, as summer nights are lighter than winter ones it can mess up sleeping patterns because light tells the brain it is daytime well into the evening.
try making plans for the next morning e.g think about what you need to achieve or where you need to go the next day, plan this out with your eyes closed after you turn out the light, knowing you have to get up to do something at 8 or 9 am often spurs your internal clock to kick in and wake you up in time.
if there is someone else in the house try getting them to open your curtains at 7am, the daylight should kick your internal clock into action.
sleeping pills can be a good way to get back into a routine, but only use them as a last resort. they do not help me to get to sleep though, only help me to stay asleep for a guaranteed 7 hours flat, they do give the deep sleep that i miss from waking up so much, it could be you are not going into deep sleep so need longer to feel refreshed.

When you first lay down to go to bed, relax your entire body and try to calm down your mind.
Meditation can be an effective tool for this and great and calming you.
Also, I'm sure you've heard of techniques that help you go to sleep, such as counting sheep, but I learned a different one recently that has been awesome:

Imagine you are standing in front of a chalk board. Draw a circle and write the number 99 in it. Then write the word "Deeper" next to the circle. Everytime you write the word deeper, feel yourself falling deeper and deeper asleep.
Erase the number 99 and be careful not to erase the circle. Write 98 and then write Deeper. Repeat as long as necessary.
Try to do this slowly and stay focused with it. Once your mind realizes that you are determined to do this as long as it takes, it will not want to waste more energy doing it and will turn off.
I hope this helps! Good luck going to sleep!!

I always try to place my alarm (cellphone alarm) on my dresser, which is on the other side of the room, so when it goes off I am forced to get up and turn it off. This does work, it does help me get up, but if I go to bed super late and exhausted or if I go to bed thinking that I have nothing to look forward to the next day, it appears that I end up getting up while I'm asleep, turning it off and going back to bed. And those times I usually wake up lying on top of my cellphone for some reason, ha. :/

I hope you've resolved this. I've been having the same problem, although it sounds like my sleeping schedule is a lot more screwed up than yours (currently I haven't been able to fall asleep until around 3 am or even 5).

More specifically, it helps to NOT think of any problems you may have when trying to sleep. I see that's what leads me to not want to get up later on.

I really know what u are talking about since i have the same issue, although i am married and have a good job. the problem is that my life was sooooooo full before. Now i feel that nothing new will happen and nothing will change. U need to try to do activities that u like. Helping others will give a totally new meaning to your life. Try people with special needs ..
