Thanks, Doc John, for creating this forum! A great idea.
I dream a lot, and find that I am trying to work thru issues, often from long in my past. Occasionally, rarely, I have a dream which reaches some sort of "resolution" of a problem or issue. Mostly, though, my dreams end without such, though they are usually entertaining adventures! ![]() Patty |

Hey guys this is fab
I have really big problems with sleep. I work shift work so my sleep pattern is all over the place. I will go to bed at between 10pm and 12am. But i wont sleep until 3am or even worse 6am. I do not eat or drink anything after 6pm I listen to easy music before bed. But i still cant drop off to sleep. I am not stressed out or anything. I did go to my doctors and she gave me insomnia info and that was useless. I haven't been back since as that trip was a waste of time. I keep a sleep record and have done since the start of the year and i sleep roughly between 3-13 hours a night. My aunt suggested a sleeping pill which is over the counter called forgive my spelling someinex? But i can not find it anywhere. I also work Night Shifts at least once a month and at least 2 sleep over's a week which depending on the guy i look after i could get anythign from 2-6 hours sleep at night but this is normally broken sleep as he gets up as he has behaviour problems Any advice would be great as its now nearly 1140pm and i am not tired one little bit |

i can't remember when i last had regular sleep patterns. when my last child left home about 33 months ago it got worse as i was not needed by children or able to work a regular job. i really got bad when i got my laptop 2 years ago (approx). i went through a long infatuation with it and stayed up too late on it many times. i am dissociative and live with a spouse who denies the existence of d.i.d. and apparently considers me a malingerer who just doesn't want to get well. no medication works regularly for me and i feel safer sleeping in the day. all in all this just ticks off my spouse who wishes i would be a good stepford wife and get over myself and my problems. not doing too well with that. never will. i am in therapy and have been a long time. i really do wish to get well and join the middle american life i am supposed to be living. i'm getting sort of desperate. back to the wall desperate. really scared.

Wow! What a great idea.
This could end up being one of the most fascinating forums on the site. I like Paul McKenna as a self-help author. He has recently released a book I Can Make You Sleep, which looks quite good. I have only skimmed through it myself. Dream interpretation is a fascinating business. I definitely believe it is possible, although I'm somewhat sceptical of its practical value. Books I have read about this include: The Interpretation of Dreams, and On Dreams by Sigmund Freud. Dreams, Memories, and Reflections, by Carl Jung. The Innocence of Dreams by Charles Rycroft. Freud believed that dreams could only be interpreted by means of the dreamer's assistance. His method of dream interpretation was to break the dream down into its elements, or objects, and to get the dreamer/patient to free-associate with respect to each element or object of the dream in order to identify what it meant for them. I have tried this with respect to some of my dreams, sometimes with stunning success. Jung had different ideas. He was into studying the symbolism of mythology and using this to identify the meaning that our dream symbols have. Of course I am over-simplifying massively, according to my rough and ready understanding of the subject, but I think this is the jist. |

Awesome Forum DocJohn
![]() This looks like it could be really interesting. I personally believe that dreams are very meaningful; messages from our subconscious that tell the absolute truth about something (past, present, future) if only it can be understood. I am a huge fan of dream interpretation. And, being a teenager, i have truly horrible sleep patterns.

I am certain there is a difference between "dreams" and (for me) "visits", and probably many other types I'd love to hear of.My reasons are that I have lots of trouble sleeping. But when I am asleep.I'll know I slept.Anyway 1 example is that I lost my 19 year old son to suicide, and often while praying ask that he know howloved and missed by me he is.One nite,WHILE praying,so AWAKE.I felt the lips that were his alone,on my forehead, and a quiet "I love you Mum".a few days later,in alot of pain physically,I felt ONLY his hand, a Mom knows! One pushed hair from my forehead, the other rested on my prayer-folded hands with whisper"it will be alright you need to rest. Many other unconvinced it was the wind type of Heaven sent messages! Kept me going a very long time!
