:girl_sad:
Hi Sept.Morn, Thanks for this thread. I think it's great to have something to talk about to help feel better about yourself -- and not have to just talk about problems and stuff all the time. :thank_you: I guess I've got a couple of questions. I'm 28 and already staring to get a few gray hairs here and there. (No kids or anything, I'm still single -- Lord only knows that the grays will start coming in all over the place when and if I have kids!) ![]() I usually try to pluck out my gray hairs b/c I can't afford to dye them all the time, and even if I did, they have a different texture and stick out funny anyway. Is it really bad to pluck out gray hairs? It's not like there are tons of them, just enough to bother me! There would probably be only 20 or so individual gray hairs if I didn't pluck them. (this is kinda gross, so you don't have to read it if you don't want to) :sosorry: I tend to "pick" at my hair and my face and stuff a lot (part of OCD tendencies, or Depression, or low-self-esteem, or something). :head_scratch: I break out all the time, but much more under my hair and around the hair line than on my face. Probably because I touch it way too often; I'm constantly running my hands through my hair. I need to use heavy conditioner, b/c otherwise my hair is so frizzy. And if I have to go out I put a lot of product in my hair. I always feel like I look so bad, so I try everything possible to at least get my hair under control. I've pretty much figured out what works for me, but am wondering if all the conditioner/product I use is causing the breakouts. What is the best way to minimize these? Any products that you can recommend that I can use (like toner for my scalp or something?!?!?). :humming: I feel like I'm so bad at doing my hair, that I don't want to change my current "routine" if I don't have to -- it'll take years to figure out a new way to fix my hair! Well, any advice you can give would be appreciated -- and thanks again! |

Well, IMO, those grey hairs that do the Einstein thing by sticking straight out DESERVE to be pulled. My hairdresser used to do this for me... and hmm they're gone.
I don't color my hair anymore, as the chemicals are bad, bad, bad for you, um for ME. But what I have now is a mix of greys and silvers and browns that no stylist could give... it's beautiful. I had always said that if I went grey like my one brother, I wouldn't mind a bit... and here it is: just like his! (well, not exactly, HIS is thick. Mine is fine.) I get compliments even from men, asking if I have my hair frosted or something. sigh. I'm only 52 and don't look or act my age otherwise. hehehe Actually, the fact that it doesn't bother me anymore makes me feel better in itself. Now if I can just find someone to cut it that won't make it look like I drive a convertible...oh, wait, I DO drive a convertible! Well, THAT'S no reason for a bad cut! Spaz... sorry I almost laughed to hear the Kat has such hair!

Debbie, I don't have any scientific evidence to proove or disproove whether pulling the greys out makes them come in twice as much.
![]() As for the breaking out, it could be that your scalp is oilier than the rest of your face. Try putting some witch hazel, like Sea Breeze on after you're done washing, rinsing and conditioning. If your conditioner is the kind for dry hair, try using some for normal hair. Product does INDEED cause breakouts, especially if you're allergic to it. Too much can do the same thing. It could be causing your scalp to itch and when you scratch too hard, you cause an abrasion that may get an infection in it. I've been using gel to "define" curl, but guess what? I get by just fine with hairspray and nothing else. Running your fingers through your hair stimulates the oil glands. ![]() Be careful putting the Sea Breaze on your face. Don't know if you have sensitive skin. If it doesn't dry it out too much, that might help with the hair line breakouts, too. When you wash your face, pay particular attention to the hair line. Make sure you get soap on it and also make sure you rinse off well. It's always a good idea to do a sensitivity test on the bend of an elbow before you use any product over a large area. Wait 24 hrs to see if there's a reaction. Good luck! ![]()

oh yeah... product does react to me! I am soooo sensitive...even when I can get into the tub, I have to be careful about what bubble stuff I use, as my skin might be able to tolerate it but my scalp can't!
The two products my allegists have agreed upon, and I am able to use without sensitivity are Aveeno, and um... Eucerin. Remember folks, what you put IN your body is just as important as what you put ON your body! Try to eat healthily... you'll feel better for it too!

Thanks Sept!
I hadn't thought of witch hazel before (actually, until now I didn't even know what it was for). Perhaps I will try that --- but not my normal toner (the one I use on my face) on my scalp, right? I also wonder if I get up near the hairline when I wash my face. I'm always cautious about getting the facewash into my hair. Maybe that's part of the problem, too. I don't have particularly sensitive skin; it's fair, but doesn't break out in rashes a lot or anything. Who knows. I am so inept at hair care and beauty stuff. I used to blame my mom for not teaching me that stuff. Really, she doesn't know much about it either. And, I'm trying not to blame other people so much for my problems anymore. Thanks again! PS: I wonder why my smilies didn't show up in my first post. They looked great on the "preview", but when I went to the forum, they weren't there. All it showed was the text you type in to make the smilies. Can anybody see my smilies? Does anyone know why that might happen? ![]() |

Smilies don't show up after you've gone back and edited your post for some reason.

You could probably use your toner on your scalp but it's more expensive than Sea Breaze. I'd save it for your face.

Witch hazel - Sea Breese are astringents.

When I had my hair highlighted with blond tones, I tried John Frieda's "Sheer Blonde" shampoo & deep conditioner. I really liked it and also liked the styling products. I still use the styling products for blonde, even though I'm back to brunette now. I might start using the Brilliant Brunette when I run out of my current shampoo. I think if his other products are good, then the Brilliant Brunette stands a good chance! Go ahead and try it!
Debi PS: it doesn't have a huge effect on the color of your hair, so there' s not really any risk |
