Here's a quiz to take if you want healthier hair. I know it's product specific, but I bit the bate and am very happy.

Healty Hair Quiz

My recommendation of the mayonaise treatment it to replace any hot oil treatment. It's better than anything I've ever tried. It not only replaces the natural oils in your hair, but the mayo also has much needed protein.

If your hair is breaking, you might want to go to a beauty supply store and ask for a "protein" treatment. If you perm or color your hair, always add "filler," which is protein, also. Add some of the "protein" that you bought to the mayo treatment and remember to warm up your hair, either in the sun or with a blow dryer. Leave it on as long as you are comfortable but not much less than half an hour.

The heat expands the hair cuticle which allows the conditioner to penetrate the hair. When you wash off the mayo, make the last rinse as cold as you can stand without making you scream in shock! LOL

Like I mentioned in the quiz post, the quiz is product specific. However! Check out the ingredients in the shampoo or the conditioner and if you have the patience, check out less expensive products to see if the ingredients are the same. You can find less expensive products that basically work the same as the most expensive ones. This also goes for make-up. Hair Care Thread

I LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SEPTEMBER.

OK, here's question number one (i'm sure i'll have many..lmao) what color shade would you suggest for me for a med to light blonde without getting the orange tint? i've colored my hair since i was 19 (pregnacy drastically darkened or more took the color out of it). i never had a problem with "orange tint" until about 8 yrs ago. if i had more grey, i'd go natural, but right now it's just colorless without anything. i was always a natural blond. in fact, my brows are lighter than my hair is now.

i've tried the ash, champaignes, etc. i definitely stay away from "goldens". i even thought it was the over the counter stuff, but went a few months ago and got it done at the salon and it turned out exactly like it did when i did it myself. the only time in recent years that i've not dealt with the "orange" tint is when i was having it highlighted with "frosting"...big bucks. my hair was short then too.

what do you recommend. going back to the expensive highlighting?

thank you again for the opportunity?

love,

You know, Kimmy, I think the best people to help you pick your hair color might be your daughters, since they have seen you in 3D and have seen your other variations. Have you asked them for help?

yes, and we agree, then there's something in it that gives me the tint...even when professionally done. i think as i'm getting older, i'm getting more red undertones as the salon said Hair Care Thread

i just wish i had more grey...NOW! i wouldn't worry about it then...hehe. i'm an odd duck i know Hair Care Thread

you know, LMo, i've thought of that. i really have. thing is it scares me too much. with the DID, changes, even small ones can upset the apple cart drastically Hair Care Thread a simple haircut can be a HUGE ordeal. i have to stick with things the same...hair, makeup, clothes, etc. if i deviate from the "norm", i shatter Hair Care Thread

unless i can find a way to get around the tinting with color, i'm probably going natural. i can't stand that orangish tone, because it LOOKS sooooooo fake. would rather be dull Hair Care Thread

ty so much for helping me on this.

aw man! that's a shame. ok -- I still think that natural is the best way to go anyway.

How about some of those color enhancing shampoos? There are some specifically for blondes. Have you tried them?

LOL Yeah, I give myself a "body wave." That's a perm on big rods so that it doesn't get kinky. Hair Care Thread I'd suggest you go to a beauty shop and have it done. Don't try it yourself. There's more to "wrapping" a perm than there is to rolling your hair on rollers. Hair Care Thread

One way to keep your hair heated is to wrap plastic wrap around your head, pop a towel into the dryer long enough to heat it up, wrap the towel around your head then another layer of plastic wrap.

Hi September!

My hair grows VERY fast, so much so that I have visible gray roots three weeks after coloring.

When I get my hair professionally colored with Aveda products (I do this about once every three months because it's so expensive), I can go about 4 weeks before coloring.

Between these professional colorings, I touch up my roots myself. I have not found a dye yet that lasts longer than 2 weeks! I leave it on 45 minutes.

Can you suggest a store bought dye which might be better? I just use Loreal or those other brands.

I use chocolate brown. I just get so frustrated about having to dye my hair all the time. I'm 36 and don't want to go the natural route quite yet.

Any thoughts???

To tell you the truth, your hair growth isn't that unusual. Last week, my friend and I got our hair done and today, I saw a bit of regrowth on her roots already. From what I learned in cosmotology school, your hair growth is average.

Most TINTS (it's against the rules for beauticians to call it dye) are basically the same. They all consist of the color and the developer. If you are trying to lighten your hair then the volume of peroxide (developer) is important, but not when you are tinting it dark. There's not much you can do about your hair growth, so maybe going with a semi-permanent color more often would be better than waiting four weeks for a touch up.

Another advantage that semi-permanent colors have is that you can do your whole head at once; no sectioning and being careful to stay on the regrowth only.

Hope that helps. Hair Care Thread

Thanks for the advice!

So on another note, what is a fairly painless way of STOPPING to color your hair. How can my grey grow in and not look completely hideous in contrast to my brown?

I have been thinking that when my time comes I will just have to shave my head!

You could do what I just did. I had my hair weaved just in front so that the greys don't show as much when they grow in. Only thing is, the woman didn't lighten it enough; it's kinda yellow. The greys won't be as obvious, though.

There's a thought for you. Hair Care Thread
