I have an issue that comes up now and then during my period, and I was wondering if others have the same problem, or better yet, a solution? Ok, let's say I put a tampon in, then a little while later, I have to go to the bathroom (and let's say, just to pee, not No. 2), but it's too early to take the tampon out, because it hasn't soaked up enough blood to pull it out without leaving myself too dry inside to put in a new one. So, I leave the tampon in and pee, and then carefully clean myself, but for some reason, the tampon has pulled out just a little bit (even though I was careful not to tug the string), so that it can be felt and is irritating a certain spot in my vagina, causing it to feel chafed and burning. I have pain with intercourse (although it's been years since I've had that, but the sensitivity is still there), and it's in this same area where I feel the pain then. I plan to mention this to my gynecologist next time I see him/her (there are a couple of people I might get in the office), even though I don't expect to find out why I have this pain, since I've been asking gynos for years with no luck.

I usually will take the tampon out and wait until I'm bleeding freely again to put another in, because if I try while it's too dry, the tampon will be difficult to get inside, and won't go in far enough, and then I'll have to pull it out because it hurts too much (in that same burning area). Does anyone have any ideas, because I usually have to pee at some time when it's not time to change my tampon? I hate having to "get messy" and deal with the blood, so I like to avoid it whenever possible. Thanks in advance.

For the dryness during your reinstallation I recommend pure (unscented) petroleum jelly. I learned that at a young age from my dance teacher, and what a valuable trick it proved to be!

Sorry I can't offer any further assistance, I dont even get a period anymore...

Trippin, I'm jealous. I don't want to get old, go through menopause, but one thing I won't miss is my period. I considered getting some kind of lube. I'll get some later today. Thanks!

Goodluck with the lube

I have not had a period in a decade, on Mirena IUD. 30% of the women on Mirena have no periods as a. Collateral bonus. Plus, Mirena offers a bit of cancer prevention. So, why not?..

I got some Vaseline, but it will only help the applicator go in...if the cotton enters a dry vagina where the cotton's supposed to go, it will still be hard to get in. Hopefully, though, it will help.

I used to be on birth control to avoid periods. The doctor had me have them every three or four months (still too much for me!). Now that I'm 45, I've been afraid to ask to go back on the bc, because of the risk of blood clots. Being obese puts me at a higher risk. But I'd love to stop my periods again! That was a pretty good time in my menstrual life.

Maybe you should use sanitary towels for a while, see if that helps...... just a thought......
good luck

I hate it when that happens. I can't remember who makes them, but someone is making a super slim/super light one (or its called for "teens") now that can help especially if flow is lighter or for what you describe; you may have to change it more often but it may perhaps help meanwhile.

I use sanitary napkins (I call them "pads"), too. I always wear one as a backup, and for when my period stops (and then it starts up again a day or so later). I much prefer tampons because I can't stand cleaning the mess with just a pad.

ANOTHER TAMPON QUESTION (even if you used tampons in the past):

When you're in the shower, do/did you wear a tampon? I usually don't, but I did last night, and it was nicer to not have blood get on my towel. I just wondered if the water would get soaked up by the tampon and not protect from the blood, but it still was fine.

tampons can definitely be left in whilst showering...even if you want to go swimming they hold up but need changing soon after. the only time tampons don't hold up are ifyou are incontinent and wearing 'nappy' style pads for that as the urine goes in the vagina as it spreads through the pad before being absorbed and soaks into the bottom end of the tampon!
straight after wiping yourself, place your pointer finger gently in your vagina and gently push the tampon back up into place that way it should not be low enough to be felt or irritate. if it still is too low then maybe you need to look at using shorter ones, teen ones tend to me smaller than regular ones as they are designed for girls who are still growing.
Thanks for this!

I wouldn't be putting Vaseline anywhere near my vagina! Google the ingredients
Use KY.
Thanks for this!

I would not try vasiline on the cotton part. It will act as a barrier and not let liquids in. I do have the same problem. The joker slides down and then aggravates my insides. I'm no spring chicken, so I don't know if it is an age thing or not. I agree the mess of pads is just yuck. This inconvience of tampons is very annoying. But generally they do tend to make life easier. Mine sometimes fall out when I go to pee even if they are not fully saturated. Other times it is to dry and feels like it is pulling out part of my insides. GREAT TO BE FEMALE HUH.

I just wore a tampon AND panty shield or light pad most of the time at the beginning/end of my period when I was like that and, like you, took the tampon out and then put on a new pad when I put in the next tampon.

Ok, I thought KY Jelly would be a good option, and told my boyfriend to get either Vaseline or KY, and he got Vaseline. I'll get some KY for my next period (I'm just about done for this month).

Soups, this isn't from personal experience, but I've read that virgins can use tampons, too. The hymen doesn't cover the entire entrance to the vagina, so you can slide a tampon in. However, it can stretch your hymen a bit, so that might hurt. You can probably contact a tampon maker and ask for a free sample, so you don't have to buy a whole package. Or ask someone, but you'll probably want to start with a teen tampon, since you've a virgin.

Go to Tampons Tampax - Mother Nature - Period - Puberty – Tampax.com. You can find all kinds of information, and I highly recommend the newest ones, called Radiant. They're easier to grip as you put them in. There's information for putting in your "first tampon." Click on "Coupons and Samples" to get a free sample.

I started using tampons when I was 15 and a virgin. I was scared as hell and didn't have a choice (ballet exam) but it was probably the best lesson a teacher ever taught me!

PS. There were no "teen" tamopons back then, I just used good ole kotex.

I started using tampons before I had sex. I used them because I was going on a backpacking trip. It didn't bother me. You just have to get used to it and find the ones that work for you.
