i wasn't sure where to post this, i dont even know if this is the right place. i was in hospital for what they thought was my appendix but it turned out to be a burst cysts on the ovaries. I was in for 5 days and on the last day i had to have an internal and a pap smear done. it brought back memories of my rape, i felt disgusting and violated all over again. i got home and the first thing i did was got in the shower and put my clothes in the wash. since then ive had nightmares of the whole internal and pap smear all over again except its my step dad whose doing it plus more. i want it to stop but how ???

Im sorry that the test gave you flashbacks - can you remind yourself that this is not happening now - that you are safe now - that you survived it then and you can survive it now -

call your T if you have one - try other grounding techniques - ice in your hand - get super busy - I really hope you feel better soon and that things settle down for you

I've found that trying to have all female health care providers, even my dentist, help me a great deal. I still have anxiety, but it's much less having a woman doc.

Also, in a situation like an emergency where you have no choice, maybe grabbing a female nurse and letting her know briefly, that you are a sexual abuse survivor and very uncomfortable about things, she might provide some support and even let the male doctors know so that they are more care-full of you.

Other than that, I wish I could make your pain and flashbacks go away. But I can't. Time, Therapy and Taking good care of yourself will eventually make things better. We'll always be scarred, but the older the scar gets the less you see or feel it.

Doesn't make me feel better, no meaning to me for sure.
Can't stop you from praying and blessing me,
and if that makes you feel better feel free.
But keep it to yourself please, don't tell me.
And let's all respect each other's feelings.
With kindness, support and "sweet dreamings."

I love Pomegranate's response. Good advice.
