Every Sunday evening I just dread that I have to go back to work. I wonder if a lot of people feel this way?
I’ve been waiting months to transfer. Who knows when or if the transfer will happen. The place just makes me anxious and wears me out mentally and emotionally. |

You know I completely understand Sisabel and I am hoping something better comes up for you.
A job opening came up recently in another department in my area of the company. However, I spoke to the hiring manager, and it sounded like the learning curve would just be too much for me at the moment, plus I'd have to go back to working in the office full-time, which isn't going to work while our puppy is still young. Month end hit and a bunch of my things didn't get edited, so I am worried about getting crap for my production. Last month was one of the few times lately that my things did all get edited. One of the freelancers saw that I had done a list of pretty easy projects, and grabbed them all in the last few days of the month, so I don't have any carryover from then into September to help the numbers. On top of that, it was a short month - three holidays and I took a vacation day to deal with some personal errands, so effectively I only had 16 work days, which she says in theory should be taken in to account, but often aren't. So, I am worried she is going to give me crap about it. Yuck! Hang in there!! It sucks, I know. I am taking the last week of this month off, and we're trying to figure out where to go for vacation. It's the only thing keeping me slightly sane right now. |

You’ve got a lot of projects going. It sounds like you spend Sunday evenings feeling anxious like I do. You realize how unhappy you are when you’ve had a break from it for a few days. A vacation sounds like a great idea! I have to focus on things I look forward to as well otherwise it feels I have no life beyond that crazy place. I’m glad you’ve been able to adjust your schedule around the puppy at least. That’s important. Hubby and I juggle our schedule so we don’t leave our dogs alone for too long. Hope your day goes well today... as well as can be expected at that crazy place.

Ugh, started Tuesday in tears. Our boss wants everyone to meet tomorrow to discuss last month's numbers. We usually have meetings every other month and we just had one last month, so something's up. I imagine she is not happy.
I mean what does she want? As I mentioned above we had three national holidays and a lot of people took extra days around those. So, of course the numbers are going to be lower! What are we supposed to do, not take (legally mandated in this country) holiday and vacation time? That's what it sounds like to me. Well, she did pressure someone to come off doctor-ordered sick leave for a serious flu, so I guess she thinks we don't deserve holidays either. Ironically, she takes more sick leave than the rest of the department combined. I recently reconnected with a guy that used to work on our team that I got along well with. He was fired, although from everything I could see, it was not due to his work quality. The boss probably just decided she didn't like him. I used to help him with some things related to Brazil, so I did see his work and it honestly seemed good. He said at that point he felt the bad atmosphere there. I told him, he had seen nothing. It is so much worse now! |

This must be quite the “norm” for the work environment these days. The “numbers” are all that matter at my work too. It doesn’t matter what happened and why it happened... we are just expected to work miracles.... often without sufficient tools to work the miracles with. It makes for a tense day... |

Exactly Sisabel. We have an ancient content management system. That makes it hard to be efficient because the system isn't. For example, we have to enter the same information in 2-3 different places at times.
Since I started here as a freelancer in 2016, we have been told we are going to get a better system, but it's still not ready. There was one attempt but it was just as bad as far as wasting time and they scrapped it. We could do a better job numbers-wise with a new system that actually takes into account how we work. I'm sorry to hear your work is the same way ![]() |

I feel your pain. It’s the same for me. It’s just demoralizing. I work in health care where technology is ages behind the rest of the world. I used to be able to leave work issues at home. As soon as I walked out the door I forgot about all of it. Now I drag it with me. I really should see a counselor because this has gone on too long... this and other personal issues has just changed me.... money and time are an issue as far as counseling goes.... that and I’ve also had bad experiences with counselors in the past which makes me reluctant to spend the money and time once I have it again.... |

Yeah, counseling has crossed my mind too, but like you I really don't have the time/money. The wait lists hare are very long as well.
Right now, I can't really quit or look for a job with another company because we are planning on starting the process to buy a house in 2-3 months. If I haven't been at a company for at least a year, my income won't be taken into account for the loan. Our current living situation is a disaster so we really need to move. It's another factor causing stress for me right now. I guess I need to start getting ready to go to this meeting. I feel sick to my stomach just thinking about it. I hope you can get through your day okay. |

I dread work on Sundays and every day of the week! Lol. Let's face it -- work is hard. My work brings a lot of anxiety too. I am sorry you're struggling, Sisabel -- I hope your transfer comes through for you.

I dread Sundays as well as I feel that I am doing the workload of two people and went home early last week due to stress. It is just certain individuals who go out of their way to challenge my authority as a Teacher.

Thanks! We are finally starting the process. A condominium of new houses that we liked still has some available and our situation with our awful new neighbors is deteriorating, so we are going to try and buy. I took Thursday off to go to the bank and am getting all the paperwork together. |

I go through spells of dreading the stress that the next day could bring. I'm a little more relaxed since I covered a week's medical leave of a colleague and suddenly my major job tasks were covered on a Monday which is the more involved of all the days. Knowing some of this can be handled in my own quasi absense helps relieve my feeling on edge and trapped in the abyss, so to speak.
Of course some of the homelife stress came to a halt as well in regards to my oldest's schooling and getting up in time which drastically improved by some minor adjustments. I spent the better part of the last year in heightened anxiety. |

Totally get this. Of my two days off I spend the first sleeping and dealing with the depression that comes with hating what I am doing. Then I spend the second day worrying and thinking catastrophically about the days to come.
I am in a job, new to me not quite three months ago, in which I have had neither support nor training. What I do I've had to learn by observing my co-workers. My department is small and a tight knit clique I haven't been able to break into. My coworkers are constantly gaslighting me and throwing me under the bus. I have no idea what I have done to get on their bad sides. The people that are supervising and managing me have yet to introduce themselves to me and I have yet to see them on the floor. When I have questions then I have no choice but to turn to the very coworkers who have little time for me. Last night was just such sort of an example. I was scheduled for a different shift for the first time and had no idea the duties involved. No help from my coworkers. Their responses to my questions were terse, angry, and conflicting. The nature of my job means I just can't stop what I am doing and go find someone like a supervisor. So I trundled along last night as best as I could - and made several mistakes including a really big one. My actions resulted in the building alarm going off. I was admonished in front of other staff and yelled at by a manager. So I too am dreading returning later today. Where is my support and training? |

I very much get the let's toss everyone under the bus mentality. My boss mentioned wanting to begin a profit and loss spreadsheet for everyone. It's not like raises are dependent on that, we're under contract. It's not like we get commissions, again, we're under contract. But boy oh boy doesn't it have one particular individual not quite up in arms but rather resistant to be a team player as in the past because of various side opinions through the years and man isn't the worst oozing out. My boss has been so wrapped up in a major project as have I been spread so thin that these P&L sheets haven't even begun never mind she has new to her administrative tasks tossed her way on top of it all but the throwing under the bus thing is for the birds. She's rather callous lately and ugh...just ughhhhhhhhhh
It makes me want to say that yes, your conscientiousness isn't unnoticed but there's soooooo much going on that whatever you think it is...it isn't.... |

I have 5 work days until an extra long paid weekend off. But who's counting? There's a slight change in the air I hope as certain things are settling down and falling into place. It's been a rough couple of months.

Mopey - I used to live in that area, it's absolutely beautiful!
Sisabel - I hope you had a restorative long weekend. We had a nice time off. We have a rescue puppy in the house, so we couldn't take a big vacation, because she is too young to go to the pet hotel with the other dogs However, we found a cabaña in a beach town called Algarrobo for rent that allowed pets, so we went there for five days and took some stops in wine country and a brewery on the way back. The puppy behaved well. It was a much needed break, but then I had to come back to work, of course ![]() We are moving forward on the house purchase, the only thing that is keeping me going at work. |
