Hi all,

I'm feeling REALLY OUT OF CONTROL right now-I get unnecessary anxiety which then spreads to others.

Take earlier this afternnon=I was sitting at the computer and saw a LARGE DOG at the door. So I went outside to say hi to her. Then everybody got involved, it seemed, in trying to get the number off her tag to call the owner. We reached him and then she took off down the street.

I don't know why I do that-my T says to be mindful of situation but it's HARD TO DO! I'm going to talk to the doc when I see her next month-maybe I need stronger meds?

thanks for listening,

ocdchick HOW DO I CONTROL THESE EPISODES? HOW DO I CONTROL THESE EPISODES? HOW DO I CONTROL THESE EPISODES?

I think we may be able to provide you with better help if you'd explain a little more clearly what you mean.

If you're talking about impulse control in general, I'm afraid all I can do is offer hugs and support--I need to work on that too!! Something to think about: why do you think you have trouble "minding a situation", as you said? Is is just a trait that's underdeveloped in you, or is there something deeper causing it? I know that for me it's more of a defense mechanism than anything.

luck&love,

I'm confused, too. What did you do that you're regretting?

Yes, it is impulse contro!! I don't take the time to stop and think things through=O could've called the owners instead of involving everyone else!

Perhaps that's what my T means by mindfulness-I know he'd agree with this! HOW DO I CONTROL THESE EPISODES? HOW DO I CONTROL THESE EPISODES? HOW DO I CONTROL THESE EPISODES?

Ahh, I see! Impulse control can be VERY difficult... are you on any meds to help you focus, perhaps? That might make things a little easier. Other than that, all I could say is that maybe you could wear a special ring or a bracelet, and every time you see it, it should remind you to SLOW DOWN and THINK about your situation before you act. Not that you have a memory problem, but by reminding yourself to think, it might become easier for you.

Good luck!!

Other people do have their own controls? You don't "control" them and what they decide to do? That you wanted others to help or be involved, they get to decide to be so, it isn't up to you. I don't see you as out of control, just "concerned" about a dog. If the dog made you anxious because it didn't seem to have an owner and took off before the owner could come, etc. that is an interior problem of yours and the other people involved don't necessarily have that problem (just because you do and they got involved in "your" problem). Other people have their own reasons :-) Don't worry about the other people, it's their problem to take care of themselves. Look out for you and what you are doing/thinking.
