I'm doing some research and am trying to get other Aspie opinions. What are some area's that you struggle with, have a harder time in, that affect you differently, etc. being an Aspie? I'm an Aspie and have my own list, but know it can greatly very from one Aspie to another.
Are there mental health areas that are caused/affected by Aspergers? Other areas in life that are affected? I guess I'm just trying to get an idea of what is a "normal Aspie struggle" lol Thanks for your help...I know it's probably a weird question. |

I'm an Aspie and have trouble with depression mostly and some anxiety.
I also have a difficulty making friends with people. I don''t know what to do to develop friendships. Then there are a lot of sensory problems, but I saw an OT for a while and I'm doing a lot better with those problems. I spend most of my free time alone. |

I have a hard time dealing with depression, self worth, and romantic relationships. Strangely enough, I can make friends very easily, probably owing to my ability to mask most of my aspie traits.

Anxiety is big for me as well, I also struggle with multi tasking as I find it hard to focus, friendships what are they?? I have people that I chat to at the kids after school activities etc but a friendship is just to much work and causes to much anxiety.
I really struggle with sensory overload when it comes to noise, it can be painful but also just so loud that someone could be talking to me and I can hear anything as everything else is blended into the conversation and I I can't follow it. I also need a lot of down time to recover after being out or being with people. |

Understanding illogical, colloquial language and idioms. I had to study a book called Paddy Clark Ha Ha Ha by Doyle, and cried all the way through my first essay in the middle of class because I couldn't understand any of it.
Also loud noises, crowding, or noise coming from too many different sources... Just can't deal with any of it |

Definitely romantic relationships, addictions to certain things and then stuff like depression, social anxiety and OCD.

I sometimes go to an Autism Social Group... Everyone says what they mean. It's wonderful, and not so hard... Whenever I'm there it feels like my brain just relaxes because it doesn't have to struggle so hard to understand the conversation

First hour we met none of us said a word (no exaggeration, we sat there is total silence for that long) but now we talk so much. I'd definitely recommend it if there's one in your area, and a lot of the ways I cope I learned from other Autists ![]() |

My primary issue is anxiety, and now with not having any support, it has gotten worse.
Today, I went to see my advocate. He drafted a letter but then having thought about it, I would never get the outcome or "happy ending" I want. It won't make a difference receiving an insincere or otherwise half hearted apology from the people running Autism Initiatives and even if I could sue them, I would not have won anything. I'm a bit stuck, however. I could have still used a helping hand in regards to my anxiety. Sadly, it always means getting used to new faces and people quitting their job. Nobody with loneliness wants to put up with that when they are depressed. It is annoying when professional commitments get in the way of your own feelings. But I miss Sara. Since Sara and Joanna left, complaining about my treatment is not going to matter at all. In the end, I would have achieved nothing by getting my advocate to post that letter anyway. |

The anxiety really is the worst; I'm going on antidepressants for other symptoms but whilst I doubt there's any chance of it working for those, I'm actually really hopeful that it will lower my anxiety. Have you spoken to your doctors/psychologist/etc. about possibly going on meds to control your anxiety? Personally I've always hated any thought of being on medication, regardless of what it's for, but I really think this may help me and it could be a possibility for you if you ask.

Anxiety the most I think. I hate this seeing it as it is. It makes me anxious. I'd like to live a stupid lie as well.
Also it would be hella nice sometimes to be appreciated for all things I do for free for others (like fixing their computers) while they tell me how stupid and lazy I am for not being able to do dishes every day. But I'm not allowed to tellem how stupid they are for messing up their computers. |

I am in a pickle. You see, StbGuy and I agree caregivers cannot be trusted. But because of my anxiety, I find it hard to do stuff alone. I've gotten myself feeling anxious just going into a shop. So what would say a social situation do for me?
Sadly, no support means no real rights to all your benefits. It just has a lot to do with the care package. Don't ask me what the ins and outs of this are. But basically, I lost a good flat for nothing and went to jail to be remanded. Well, I was nasty to two women but they betrayed me and I got angry as it was well, bugging me. The issue now is getting another flat. Lower rates of DLA means the council won't pay all the rent. This EdIndex gag is a nuisance as you have to bid on houses for a long time before you may get lucky and going private means forking out more money as private tenancies come with greedy landlords that charge the Earth. So getting the short end of the stick with Autism Initiatives really screwed me over big style. Yet it was my own stupidity for being infatuated with my key worker before. However, Latino people are hot. |

In terrified every time I leave the house, and scared when I don't. I go to these evenings with the Autism social group because we don't have to talk to each other unless we feel we can and want to. We don't have to worry about upsetting each other; and above all everyone is honest. Also, my mother has a fear of me developing agoraphobia so has started a 'let's drag her out of the house once a day' thing and has actually been sticking to it pretty well. Yesterday she got me out to buy white oil paint and new brushes and I only complained a few times

How do you know if you are busy developing agoraphobia? What are the signs to look out for?

Not sure, I think there's some info on the Panic Disorder page or it may have its own page (under Conditions); I know that avoiding areas where you've previously had a panic attack (not necessarily caused by the area) is a part of it for some people - like of you've had a panic attack in an elevator you may avoid all elevators

No. 5 crappy days before court, the tossers showed up one Thursday afternoon because (their words), they wanted 'To talk to me' about contacting Joanna in May, but this was back in August. Then I ran off. Of course, if they do not catch one quick, they take it further. If they ask your folks to put you down as a missing person, it grants the pigs the power to search anywhere they please. They know I like to play pool for example, or they can also go to your GP or bank.
Yeah. The fuzz catch up with you sooner or later. That is why I should have kept my trap shut about fancying Sara, but my ex made me become desperate and lonely after she abused me. The agency knew I am socially inept as well. Screwing me over was wrongful yet so was my racist remarks to Sara. But there is nothing I can do now as the ladies have non harassment orders in place, so by contacting them, I will be shooting myself in the foot again. |
