I'm currently not in the 20-week DBT program, but have taken about 15 weeks of it before landing back in the hospital. I self-taught myself all of the information and have been practicing the skills often.
I'm looking for a workbook for DBT. I have bipolar and wonder if anyone has any suggestions to make. ~dance59326

If you go to www.behavioraltech.org it is Marsha Linehan's site and you can find books about it. You can also try the local bookstore like barnes and noble or borders and search under Dialectical Behavior Therapy. You should get a lot of different books to help.

I'd need to Google DBT because I don't even know what it is.

There is actually a new book that just came out for DBT and bipolar. Don't have it right here so can't give you the exact title or author. Maybe check amazon.com. Been in DBT for about a yr. & plan to CONTINUE--don't think I will graduate anytime soon, but have been able to get off some meds & decrease dosages of others due to utilizing the skills I am learning.

A very helpful book for DBT is
THe Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook By Matthew McKay, Jeffrey C. Wood Psyd, Jeffrey Brantely MD Published by New Harbinger Publications Inc It is available from amazon for about $18.00 There is also a DBT forum here run by Rapunzel that you can join in social groups and post your situations in the social groups forum. Every Tuesday there is a DBT chat here again led by Rapunzel in the chat room, not sure what time it is for you as I dont know where you are but you can check that in the Chat section. Both are great resources for us where who are in DBT. Hope that helps Paddy ![]() ![]() Last edited by paddym22; Sep 15, 2009 at 01:57 AM. Reason: added information |

I have too little focus to read about it, although I tried. Can anyone sum the program/this kind of therapy up for me in a small para?

Thinker - DBT is the current most effective means of therapy used in treating people with borderline personality disorder. It uses Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation and Distress Tolerance to overcome BPD symptoms.
I have found it to be life changing and the most effective therapy I have ever used. It is being adapted now to other disorders on the spectrum. |

My therapist started to do the DBT program with me and only got as far as giving me one homework assignment..... that didn't help because I didn't get instruction on how to do the assignment. I have read about it more in depth and I am hoping that with some coaxing the therapist will continue with the program for me. I really think that it will help with my BPD.
I can't afford the books or I would just find a workbook and do the exercises more on my own. |

The one written by the Dr. ( Marsha Linehan) who developed DBT: "Skills Training Manual for Treating Borderline Personality Disorder"--though as I said I do DBT therapy & have bipolar & find it extremely helpful.
New book out specifically aimed at bipolar: "The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook for Bipolar Disorder--Using DBT to Regain Control of Your Emotions & Your Life" by Sheri Van Dijk, MSW |
