Im new here but im unsure of where to go or who to talk to and i really need some help.
Iv been feeling pretty unwell for a few weeks now and over the past week or so everything has got out of control, its all new to me and im pretty scared. Iv had bipolar for years but iv never experienced anything like this before.
Iv become so paranoid i can hardly leave the house. I think all my family are talking about me and hate me which is why they have stopped talking to me, its like there against me. Few nights ago i had the worst experience... i started hearing voices, as if they were next to me whispering and i was seeing things moving around, like something running so quick it was hard to focus on, i believe that theres something living in my house, watching me! For some reason i got it in my mind that theres an alien invasion and that is what is living in my house, im terrified to sleep. Iv become obsessed with researching aliens, getting as much info as i can incase what i think is real. I feel like iv lost control. Im so scared, im unsure what is real and what isnt. What is happening to me? What is this?

I have an appointment to see GP in a few days to talk about this but i really needed to talk about it before then.

I understand and have been there, the details vary of course. Your GP will need to do some tests and ask you a bunch of awfully boring questions before deciding if you're dying or just crazy.

For me, it was just moodiness.
Thanks for this!

Do you have a pdoc? Are you on meds at all? I would highly suggest calling your pdoc and talking to them and getting on meds if you aren't on them already. I know this stuff can be really scary, but you need to try and remember that you are ok. Its not real and people care about you. Have you tried to talk to your family about some of the stuff you are hearing or seeing? Maybe they can help ease your fears when it happens by checking to see if there is anything around you. Idk maybe that will help, or if you are like me you try to keep your family out of it. I just think they might be a lot of help to you right now.

Iv spoke to one person in my family about this but i got nothing from it. I live on my own and dont have my parents no more so reaching out is hard. Im visiting pdoc in about 2 weeks. Not on any meds, haven't been for about a year now, (doctors were ok about this). Its just all really knackering and just needed to get it out and tell somebody, its so hard dealing with all this on my own sometimes and like i say, this past week has just been scary as its never happened before.
Thanks for replying to me x

I'm not on meds anymore either, so I understand that, i also have had a lot of psychosis, and it sounds like that's what possibly going on with you. When you are hearing things can you tell that it isn't real, like you know it isn't even though it may seem real? When I sometimes can't tell I will check against what is possible and what is not, as some of the hallucinations are really just not possible, the other things though sounds like delusions or paranoia, just my opinion of maybe.

It would be good if you can get in to see someone earlier, even if only to clear your mind, I don't know your stance on meds, but you do want to make sure that you are safe.

I try to use distractions when I am having psychosis, and it does help, in the hospital they did the same with me. Puzzles can be a good one, or things like that. Just so you are not just trapped in your head, over thinking it all, and it can help if you get agitation as well.

I hope you will be feeling better soon.Welcome to PC by the way. Keep posting here if that helps, I know that usually helps me.

I would go see a p-doc, for several visits, and try to obtain a diagnosis. I do not think it is moodiness - I agree with Anika that is sounds like psychosis. Well, I did not put it right - it CAN be moodiness coupled with psychosis (schizoaffective disorder or even Bipolar I with psychotic features), but it can also be schizophrenia. The drug treatment would probably be the same. Since you are saying that you have had Bipolar for a while, I assume that schizophrenia has been ruled out? But it might be starting, later than Bipolar itself. At any rate, I do not think a GP would be qualified to deal with all these problems.

The drug I take is Geodon and in the few years I have taken it, I have hallucinated only once and very briefly and after a horrible situational difficulty. No hallucinations out of the blue. It has an unusual sexual side effect, but because it is unusual, I am comfortable recommending it for you to try.

This sounds distressing for you, psychosis is what immediately comes to mind, I know the feeling especially how consuming it can become. I don't think researching aliens is helping you break out of the cycle (although if I was in a similar situation to you, I would jump on the net too I guess).
I imagine you will be put on some antipsychotics or something along that line.

Well since i was about 13 everything seemed to have been the same and iv gotten use to it. The ups and downs and general moodiness, it goes pretty quick sometimes. I could be depressed for days, weeks then in the blink of an eye im the exact opposite. I was diagnosed with bipolar about 4-5 years ago. Nothing has ever changed until now, with the symptoms iv described. I dont really understand why everything has suddenly got this bad. However i was speaking to one person about this who works in the whole psychology area and the early signs of schizophrenia/schizoaffective was mentioned?? Hopefully i'll get some answers soon. Posting here and receiving replies has helped me, thankyou i appriciate it

The earlier you treat emerging schizophrenia, the better your prognosis. Describe your symptoms in detail to the p-doc (print out your post and take with you). I hope early intervention will help stave off worsening of your symptoms and prevent you from spiraling out of control.
