I also have this issue on occasion. Even though just like many of you when I'm done I feel so great. Having a job at a food factory helps reinforce good hygiene but on my days off I usually don't shower.

I've read that in beauty magazines before. It's sort of like dry shampoo. And I LOVE your cowbell pic!

Well I basically force myself to do it, but I know that doesn't work for everybody. I tell myself I'll feel better afterwards, which I always do. If I'm in a severe depressive episode, I can't really force myself to do anything as far as grooming goes. Its an effort to just try to live through the day at that point. (I'm not suicidal by the way or hinting that I might be - sometimes I just would rather not wake up in the morning and face my own hell again, that's all) You could talk to your therapist about the whole showering thing? Cognitive - behavioral therapy has helped me in the past, but it's not like I have all my s--- together personally

I sometimes forget to shower but mostly I've found a large number of "reasons" not to. I've never known why... It seems so simple... I don't understand it, but I'm glad to see I'm not alone here. I'm at 1-2 showers a week at this point regardless of where I'm at mood wise.

My little sister who is also bipolar will go a week without showering while manic, but showers multiple times a day when depressed.

I was at every 7-10 days. Now I'm up to twice a week. I realized because of the PTSD, I'm fearful of taking a shower that someone will get me. Working on it...

I never had this feature. I like showers, multiple times/day sometimes! I am a dirty plumber and sweaty weightlifter, so showering isn't really optional!
I even take showers and play with the water temperature for fun when I'm manic! Maybe that is why I became a plumber?! I don't know. Lol

I am back to showering once every 2 to 2 1/2 days again instead if every day. And this much is difficult!

I am like many of you, I enjoy a shower once I'm in it but getting myself there is another issue. I have decided that I think it is too much of a hassle. I find myself wiping down while on the toilet with wipes. Very silly but it works for me between showers. I take a shower weekly, at best.

I just don't want to take the time to shower in the morning...I wanna drink coffee, watch the news and eat....taking time to shower takes away from time I could be getting something done....plus then I would have to get up earlier.

I love showers. Before getting on good meds, I took 2 showers a day & a bath or two a day. Don't need to be That clean!
My husband, who has nothing wrong w/his brain, hates to shower. He does it daily but always says "Oh, too much like work." It's true sometimes for many people. You have to get undressed, start the shower, soap up, wash your hair, rinse it off, dry off. If you haven't cleaned the tub/shower recently, you get grossed out about that.

I feel odd too! I love showers. I shower everyday. It's relaxing for me too. I have very stiff muscles in my neck and shoulders so it's nice to have hot water running over them at the end of the day. Also I CANNOT stand feeling grimy, I need to be clean. Personal hygiene is very important to me and I'd feel so anxious if I wasn't doing my daily hygiene routine.

However I am a very messy person and find it impossible to tidy up after myself.

I live in a house with four other people and one bathroom. I think our hot water heater may be starting to break down. And there are never any clean towels... Unless I wash them first. I'm sure that's part of my issues.

In Europe people don't take showers every day... I think that as long as I don't smell or look like a greasy mess, I'm fine.

Wow! So I am new here and finding so many things that make me feel not so alone. To me taking a shower is a process to get there but once I am in the shower I love it. So relaxing and makes me feel better, but it is such a struggle to get to the point of showering. I shower either everyday or ever other day depending on how icky I get. I have actually had a few full blown panic attacks in the bathroom right before I get into the shower sometimes peaking when I first get into the shower. Funny thing is I have to leave the door cracked when I shower because my cat gets panicky when I shower and likes to make sure I am ok.

I generally shower at least once a day, but since I slipped up on my meds I've showered about twice this week. I really don't care though, I mean it's not like I've been doing anything other than internet and walking the dog.

Icing is making a great point.
In fact, studies show that taking a shower daily can be
very hard on your skin and hair

Thank god I found this thread. I put off showering and actually cancel social events because I don't want to shower. I race through it once I get in. For a while I had to have someone else in the bathroom talking to me. Took one tonight because I hope to go to church and out to lunch tomorrow.
Thanks for this!

Wow this thread is still going that's great! I replied back in March and I'm pleased to report that the showering situation is much improved. Could be because it is summer now and therefore warmer, so no being too cold when I get out and it helps cool me off lol. Maybe I'm also at a place in my cycle where the depression is just about taunting me that it is about to lift. I soooo want to believe it! Go away depression, be gone forever for all I care!!

I'm also now just barely moved into a new place with no shower access (sort of long story) and so my shower situation is about to take a new turn. I plan to join a gym so I can actually think about (maybe even just maybe) get on a work out machine and work-the-eff-out for once and then and only then will I be allowed to shower. So the shower is now my reward. Must work out first for it though. Must actually do this. Will see how this goes and report back in a month or so. Cheers my friends!

WHAT? I'm certainly curious about that.

Wow, I read this whole thread, I'm definitely in the shower-fail category. I used to get up, take a shower, then eat breakfast, and rarely skipped showers. Then I started eating first, and watching TV, and doing...stuff...part of it was also getting up so late that it felt pointless to take a shower, since my day was going to end pretty soon anyway.

The one thing that helps is having a radio in the bathroom. When I turn on the radio, I automatically associate it with brushing my teeth and taking a shower.

On the other hand...I really need to get a nice bathrobe that is not too thick, because I'm in Florida.
