I finally washed my hair tonight, Its been too long but the idea of a shower is just too much. I used the kitchen sink for my hair then took a long soak in the tub. Somehow that is easier to tolerate than a shower. And of course the lavender salts and bubbles are relaxing. Now if they would only put me to sleep, this mixed episode is draining me.

I finally bought a 100% cotton white bathrobe for myself. $19.99 at IKEA. They come in two sizes: S/M and L/XL. I fit quite comfortably in the latter. The robe has a belt. heaven on earth!
Thanks for this!

I had a shower every two days now, this ends my record of taking one every day for close to a month. I have been in a depressed mood lately. Apparently my change in mood can dramatically affect my functioning. I have accomplished nothing in the last few days and missed an appointment. So I guess the frequency of my showers indicates when I am depressed.

depression = not showering

I think that, to some extent, you are right

Sometimes it is just too overwhelming to consider doing.

R010159 - every 2nd day is great. I would bet better than most of us

OMG ... I wrestled the large wild animal in the bath. So exhausted. Everything is major difficulty, major effort. I just do not understand it. And I'm sure there is no pdoc or NP who can comprehend.

I have the same problem of not showering when depressed. I use an aerosol dry hair shampoo that I bought from Walgreens. That helps as my hair feels gross after several days of no washing.
Thanks for this!

Is the same thing true about how often one changes one's bed lines?

True with me. I don't care about changing the bed linens. But changed them 2 nights ago. I won't tell you how long the previous ones were on,though!

True for me too. It is exhausting to just think of dragging all the linins off the bed, putting new on AND then washing the dirty ones. I don't even want to think about folding them!

Wow, so it's not just me, huh? I absolutely hate feeling dirty and greasy, but I have so much trouble getting myself to take a shower to get clean. I can't explain it, I just...I want to, but I DON'T want to. On work days, where I have limited time in the morning and don't want to offend my coworkers, I have an easier time with getting up and immediately getting in the shower. But on weekends, or, like now, when I'm unemployed, it's a huge ordeal to get myself to take a shower. "Ok, I'm going to take a shower in 15 minutes." Fifteen minutes later "Ehhhh you know, 15 more minutes, then I really will." Then, once I finally go in and start the water running, I always find an excuse to come back out of the shower and delay actually getting in and under the running water for another five minutes or so. I'll suddenly "need" to go into the living room to tell my wife something.

It's really more amusing than anything else. It makes both myself and my wife laugh how hard it is for me to shower. It's not distressing to me. But it is definitely weird. And I find it really intriguing that it's apparently not at all uncommon.

Bed linens are supposed to be changed???? OMG It has been..er...QUITE a long time (like when I first purchased the mattress eons ago). Maybe that is where the smell in my room is coming from? I thought a dead rat was decaying underneath my bed.

I don't want to shower because it's

1) A pain in the ***

2) Uncomfortable

3) A pain in the ***

4) I'm too damn depressed to get out of bed. Why would I want to go get wet?

It's easier if you wash the dirty ones in the morning and put them back on in the evenings before bed. It both saves you from needing an extra set of linens and saves you from having to fold them or otherwise stuffing them in a drawer.

My reason for not showering:

It's a chore for me!

I have to go downstairs to let the dogs out (and I watch my grandchildren most days)
Then I have to trudge upstairs
Decide what clothes to wear
Go in the bathroom and use the toilet, get the towel ready
Finally force myself to get into the shower
Then you have to get out and dry off, ugg
Dry my hair (I hate having wet hair)
Make it back downstairs
Then I collapse on the recliner because I'm exhausted!
It's like a chore

I shower like every 3 days. My daughter, also bipolar, showers about once a week.
Thanks for this!

For the past few weeks, I've been showering once a week. Before that it was twice, although I was aiming for three times.

Showers are just so exhausting. One of the most tiresome parts I think is drying off. So I mostly just wait for the wetness to evaporate and wear a bathrobe or loose clothes afterwards.
But the whole showering process is exhausting too. I have a leg amputation and thus aprosthesis so I shower sitting on a shower chair, so I don't have to stand. That's something at least. I can't shower quickly because that's far too tiring. I usually take around 25-30 minutes, sometimes more. Because after I've washed my hair it takes some time to be ready to wash my body. I sometimes (often) forget to do that, too, and then I've only washed my hair.

When showering is really too much but I have to (I live at home and I'm dead scared of my parents getting angry, which they will if I don't do as they say - meaning showering when they say I really have to) I sometimes shower in the tub. Sit down in the tub when it's filled with around 4 inches/10 cm of water, and then use the handheld shower head to rinse myself. The tub fills up slowly with the water from the shower head, so I won't get cold even when washing my hair. But sitting in the bath is much less exhausting than sitting in/standing in the shower.

Edit: It's been a week since I've brushed my teeth. It has been longer in the past.
I did the same thing with my teeth. When I got out of the hospital I had 9 cavities which horrified my dentist. I can't imagine showering with your physical limitations! That would be exhausting.....

Anyone else put talcum power in their hair? I sprinkle on my scalp then carefully rub it in along the roots. It absorbs the oil and my hair looks more like its been washed. Lol

My fiance b***h's at me all the time about not showering. I can identify with most of these posts though. I'm having her read the 15 pages of posts here.

Yes, either talcum powder or the "dry shampoo"
