Hi

I posted on hear a while back about being referred to a psych consultant. The day has arrived! My appointment is tomorrow.

I'm sitting here making notes and feeling very scared and almost like I'm a fraud. I've been suffering depression on and off for about 20 years and my doc recently started noticing what he thought could be manic episodes. Hence the referral.

I suppose I just wanted to come on here and pour out my feelings to people who know and have been through this.

thank you for listening!

Heather

(p.s. will report back after the appointment. And promise to learn some of the forum shorthand!)

Good luck on your appt. I was misdiagnosed for MANY years with unipolar depression. Finally saw a pdoc instead of a GP & got the correct dx. Let us know how it goes.--Suzy

well, I had my first appt. yesterday. The pdoc said it was difficult to make a dx as I was neither up nor down! (Feel like the Grand Old Duke of York!)

But from our consultation, feels I'm probably Hypomanic. I've been advised to cut out the alcohol and start keeping a mood diary.

I do drink far too much (especially when I'm 'up') so good advice.

Still taking the information in - and doing lots of reading on hypomanic states and treatments. She suggested a possible anti-psychotic drug to help stabilise moods (once the alcohol factor is removed) and a more accurate dx can be made. Can't remember the name of the one she mentioned.

on my way 'up' at the moment so finding it difficult to concentrate too.

Hi and welcome to PC, I am from the UK too!

I have bipolar, was diagnosed with hypomania and mixed states (which means manic and depressed at the same time!). Good advice with the alcohol from your doc, makes perfect sense as with most bipolar medications you can't drink on them and if you do it isn't very nice!

I hope your mood has stabilised a little. Let us know how you get on and keep in touch
