I have never been truly stable but the last 2-3 months are the closest I've come in 14 years so I'm pretty pleased with that.

Do you seem to get sick more easily than others?

My father has been out of my life for a very long time and good riddance. My mom is my support system and we live next door. It took a long time and hard work to go from a very limited relationship to this but we do very well now.

Do you need help to function "normally" with housework, meals, yardwork, etc?

Yes, very much so. A lot. I've never actually talked about it here because it troubles me but it's my reality.

What's the longest amount of time you went without sleep (not even one minute of sleep. Mine, five days.)?

I honestly don't remember but I'm going to say 3-5 days. It's been so long because since I've been diagnosed the rule has been that I get knocked out by whatever means necessary pretty quickly. 3 days would probably be automatically IP at this stage. I know I went 3 weeks with only a few hours when I wasn't diagnosed and was put on zoloft just before being sent home for Christmas break from college and I had one glorious summer of 2-3 hours max/night when I was a camp counselor. It's weird I don't remember but I think so much blended together.

Do you have a med/combo that is pretty certain to get you sleep?

"You are one of the strongest people I've ever met." (Therapist said to me)

Do you make To-Do lists because bipolar disorder and/or meds makes your memory less reliable than your pre-bipolar days?

everywhere you go in my house their are notes with 1 word on it, maybe 2- all helping me to remember something or other (and sometimes it fails to work, but mostly it works)

Whoa... probably that I can both see and control the future via my own concentration, focus, and will. On the other side, probably imagining that networks of friends and colleagues are conspiring people and then writing people out of the blue and ending friendships.

How has bipolar affected your love, romance, relationship life?

Ended a relationship before I was diagnosed.

What incident/episode caused your initial diagnosis?

Husband beat me badly enough I needed the ER, they referred me to the psychologist.

If you could do it all over again would you get help sooner?

Yes and no
Yes because it would have saved me a world of hurt
No because I developed great coping mechanisms to survive while out of my head

i suppose i'd have to say my first suicide attempt. though it didn't cause my diagnoses as such, it certainly played a big part in leading up to it

what is 1 positive thing for you about being bipolar

(I'm new to this forum, but it appears that the last three posts were posted out of order. Can someone explain to me why there's a post at 09:14 [my time zone, I assume], then one at 11:20, then 09:37 and 10:59?)

The post at 11:20 -- one positive thing for me about being bipolar is that I'm much more in tune with my emotions now. Many people act in default, but because I've done so much self-examination and emotion work, my decisions and actions are purposeful.

And the post at 10:59 -- I've never had euphoric mania or hypomania. All of mine are dysphoric. I don't have any positive bipolar memories. They are all painful.

Most helpful thing you've gained from your current therapist?

Mine aren't showing up like this so I don't know.

He taught me how to cry. It's hard to narrow it down to 1 thing after nearly 11 years but I think that is the biggest thing.

Does your therapist do things the same every time or does he/she vary sessions?
