Has anyone used DBT? I just started reading it and it looks like it can be beneficial to me and my overwhelming negative feelings.

Anyone who has used it how has it made you better? Anything specifically you like about it?

I have read about it and it sounds beneficial for a great many people. My T that I had for more than ten years did incorporate the mindfulness part and it did help but she didn't do the rest of it.

It's very helpful to many people.
It's the foundation of the only two IOPs in my area, associated with a medical school, etc.

There are some sites teaching DBT.
One is a site run by peers all learning/teaching one another DBT.
If interested, see: DBT Self Help

I was in a DBT group for six months. I found it very helpful, but there's a lot to learn.

It's good stuff. Helps you keep things in perspective. It is much better than CBT.

There's a DBT workbook you can buy too. On Amazon or a major bookstore.

Title is The Dialectical Behavioral Skills Workbook. It's going cheap on Amazon.

It $6.25 with one day free shipping if you have Amason Prime. I paid $23 for the same workbook lol

Can you do that workbook independently? Do you have to be working with a T or have some other exposure to DBT for it to be successful?

I'm doing it independently. I did think though next time I see my t in person (we have been having phone sessions) to show it to her.

Where did you find a Dbt group?

My pdoc's office runs a couple of them. You can ask your pdoc or T and see if they know of any.

I have found it very beneficial, I'm currently doing my second round in group.

DBT has helped me create a space between my feelings / thoughts and reactions, which has improved my relationships immensely.

Read: I'm less emotionally reactive. Lol

The Distress Tolerance module has been very effective in helping me cope with daily stressors such as work, bf working abroad, sick mother, pubescent daughter and tight finances.

I may actually be taking a course on it in the upcoming months, as my boss asked if I'd like to facilitate a group at work... (I work in a rehab)

So yes, definitely helpful, and I urge everyone to try it more than once if possible as it takes time to actually implement the changes in behaviour and thought patterns.

I initially signed on because of my BPD dx, but it has certainly helped on the BP front too.

I love it.

I dont do well in groups so my dbt therapist set it up special for me.
I go twice a week minimum. 1 day of talk therapy with integrating skills into my life. And 1 or 2 days of "group" in a classroom where i learn skills. My "group" consists of me and my husband.
Hes doing really well with the skills at home, me not so much. But its cool bc he knows how to remind me of skills during crisis at home bc hes learning with me.

I don't feel like I am learning much in the way of skills in my therapy appointments. My T had me read Feeling Good and challenging my cognitive distortions, but I am aware that that is CBT and not DBT. I am really curious about DBT because I heard someone mention it in my BP support group. I am willing to learn whatever I can if it will help me become stable.

I've been in a DBT group for over a year and will graduate this fall. It's ALOT!! But....good stuff.

I've found the distress tolerance skills most beneficial to me.

---i have to take it online in phoenix. Cant find a class that medicare and private ins pay for. Dbt was designed for, borderlines but is becoming very popular, for others. I really need, the, skilld of mindfulness and dialectical assertiveness-seeing the other persons point of view.

I go to a community mental health center. Medicaid was paying for it but when I got switched to Medicare I thought I'd have to quit...they let me keep coming to finish for free because they said I need it.
