Just my mom's side. My grandparents on my dad's side live down south and I only saw them when I was really young and I don't remember it.

What's the last song or poem that you heard/read that you strongly related to?

Call the Midwife. So excited the next season is on Netflix sometime this month

Do you still choose to wear a mask in public places or certain social situations?

My older brother in high school wrote a paper with all these math problems to solve a rubix cube. He had to give a speech and demonstration. He passed one around the room while he was giving his speech and he solved it using his math and it worked. He turned to a life of crime he was a criminal since he was a kid.
I was 4 or 5 and we were living in Japan and he was like 13 or 14 and he snuck us off base and took as to the city bus terminal I guess he had been watching the place Agnew the schedule that they had and the drivers would leave all their personal belongings. Well it had no security and we went and and he went through all the drivers lockers and robbed them I think I was the look out. Well we got home and he gave me all this money as a reward. I was so excited I showed my mom lol. After my dad got after my brother my dad drove us back to the bus place and we waited til all the drivers got back and he made my brother go in and apologize to all the drivers and give all the money back.
My brother was shot and killed 6/24/2020 because he disrespected someone. My sister died of bone cancer 1/4/2020 and my wife of 23 years died 11/18/2021.
The last 2 or 3 weeks have just been more and more depressing. I cry more then I ever have. My wife was my everything and I miss her so bad.
This might sound strange but I think part of my depression is because I have not ridden my motorcycle in over a month she is finally in the shop. I really hope it does not take long to get fixed. I am thinking of doing what s called a Iron Butt ride. I did one a little while ago I rode 1091 miles in 16.5 hours. This time I am going to see if I can do 2000 miles in 32 to 36 hours and if I get tired but can make it to 1500 miles in 24 to 36 hours I would be golden. Riding is honestly the best therapy for me. When I am riding I focus on the ride and only think of my wife every so often.
I would suggest that if you have a few extra bucks and want to do something different go take a basic motorcycle training class. I don't know about others but our riders course had loaner helmets if you did not have one. You could use one of theirs they also provide the bike and guess what if you drop it and break something you don't have to pay at least not at ours. It's fun.

Sorry for the book I wanted to say this at a Friday program I go to but I did not feel like crying. Thanks everyone

Not in public, since the requirement ended. But we did own some masks even before covid for work projects, such as to avoid too much dust or chemicals. We still wear them for that.

What is your absolute favorite breakfast?

@otroo I am so sorry for your losses. That is a very sad story. I'm sorry I didn't answer earlier, I needed to think what to say. I eventually decided there aren't words that help.

If you post this on the check-in thread you'll get more responses. Not too many people check this thread and most just read the bottom post (I think).

My favorite breakfast is a scone, either peach or apricot, and a 3-shot latte. Quality espresso, not weak or watery. 2% milk or soy milk.

Do you do anything to celebrate Halloween?

Yeah I thought I was posting that part of the thread in a different section lol but thank you I appreciate it did not mean to bring the thread down

For Halloween we enjoy a couple of different haunted deals. There is one in Salt Lake city that is really good called fear Factory it is suck a good one. If you park close to the stadium in the parking garage you can ride the bus back and forth and that is fun.

Question: Do you do anything to celebrate Halloween?
Answer: Only the year of the pandemic when we dressed up and surprised my nieces. This road is too rural for hitchhikers.

New Question: Do you like the pumpkin spice flavor? In what form?

I do like it, but only in pumpkin pie or something similar like pumpkin cheese cake bars. Not so much in a beverage. Sadly, my husband doesn't like this flavor combo that much. As we are a two person household, that often deters me from making such treats. I usually only had pumpkin pie at my family get togethers. If I made a pie only for myself, I would eat it all by myself. Dangerous! I haven't tried offering it to my in-laws, but my reluctance stems from a very disappointing occasion when they all refused my peanut blossom Christmas cookies. Those cookies sat on the platter uneaten. My husband reluctantly ate a couple, but only for my sake. Czechs are generally not peanut butter fans like Americans. They are picky eaters, anyway. "Can't have this! Don't like that! Allergic to that. That bothers my stomach. Only eat meat and potatoes or bread. Etc." Boo hiss!

What was the last gift-like thing you bought for yourself?

A shower sponge that has lavender soap in it. I think it was about a month and a half ago. My daughter gave me one for Christmas and when it ran out of soap I ordered myself another one.

What’s something unusual that’s on your dream bucket list?

I don't know if it's unusual, but I would like to try sky diving.

What is your favorite city you have ever visited?

Krakow Poland. It's a beautiful city with a lot of good and bad history. It has thousand year old cathedrals, old town squares and the unfortunate distinction of being next door to Auschwitz. It's... quite a story Krakow has.

But what I remember most is a memory. A moment of belonging to the city I was visiting. Nowhere to go, nothing to do. Just... a peaceful moment.

Picture if you will: A medieval town square with statues and churches and people going about their day and a equal amount just hanging out. Vendors and street performers abound, with one of them making bubbles. I'm sitting by the statues finishing a beer and freshly cooked pretzel (the smell of the dough wafts in the air) when a toddler, having found the bubble guy, screams at the top of his lungs, "BUBBLES! BUBBLES!" and takes off in a sprint across the plaza with his poor mother trailing behind.

While we were all watching the sweet scene, I felt fur against my arm. A young woman's dog found my pretzel VERY interesting! She pulled the dog away and apologized. I said it was OK and asked if I could offer the dog a piece. She had no objections, the dog certainly had no objections and even licked my cheek in appreciation.

It was a nice moment and I felt at home then. More so than my actual home. Which is quite sad.

Have you ever had a similar moment? One of feeling at home in a distant place?

@Aurelius710, I've been to Kraków twice. Most recently in September 2021, because my Czech husband had never visited that city. The first time in the summer of 1992, during my university years. I agree it's a nice city. I visited the Aushwitz museum during the first trip. On a bus heading to Krakow, in the wee early hours of the morning, I remember seeing the most beautiful sunrise ever. I will never forget it!

I experienced a moment like you describe maybe three (?) years ago in Paris, France. My husband was in the Airbnb napping, but I was not tired. I decided to walk around the corner to a café bar and have a beverage. The friendly bartender/waiter started a conversation with me, as did a customer who was clearly "a regular" there. When I left, I had the pleasant feeling that "regulars" have when they feel part of some community. I do speak enough French that that was possible.

Question: Describe a very peaceful or surreal moment you've had in the past.

25F, snowing, the woods are silent, and I'm snowshoeing. Just the sound of crunching snow, wind, and my breath. My mind always gets so quiet in a snowy forest.

If you could go anywhere right now, where would you go?

Northern Minnesota on a lake. In a canoe along the shore.

Have you ever made a decision that changed your life?

Applying for a job at a camp for kids with special needs when I randomly found a notice in the classifieds in my college newspaper. Completely changed my life.

What is your favorite flower?

Forsythia, but I love all flowers.

What is a food that most people like that you either don't or at least aren't as adoring of?

I don’t understand the fascination with steak or for that matter lobster. I don’t care for either.

What is a food that is unusual or that most people dislike that you are fond of?

A: Hot chocolate is my go to -- but sometimes I get in a mood for flavored tea -- I liked celestial tea samplers.

Q: Would you consider yourself someone who has luck? Have you been really lucky in any aspect of your life, monetary, or otherwise? OR alternative question: Have you ever been lucky and won big gambling or at a casino?

Do you think political correctness has gone too far?
