Friday morning I have to be in the basement of the hospital at 8 am for my liver biopsy. I shouldn’t remember anything as they’re giving me two drugs in my IV- fentanyl and one other. The preop takes an hour, the surgery takes an hour and recovery is 3 hours. N3 is my driver. He’ll probably just drop me off home after. Psych meds are to blame- especially zyprexa. I just hope they don’t find anything serious.

My liver biopsy got cancelled! My liver dr said my liver enzymes are extremely improved. Asked what I did- I said I started eating fish, taking vitamin D and stopped symbacort! I guess the choir’s prayers worked!

Found this….

Yes, according to research, omega-3 fatty acids can potentially lower liver enzymes, particularly in individuals with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), where studies have shown a reduction in liver fat and improved liver function markers like ALT and AST when taking omega-3 supplements; however, the exact effect may vary depending on the individual and the severity of their liver condition.
Key points about omega-3 and liver enzymes:
Potential benefit for NAFLD:
Studies indicate that omega-3 supplementation can decrease liver fat and associated liver enzymes (ALT, AST) in people with NAFLD.
Mechanism of action:
Omega-3 fatty acids may help reduce inflammation in the liver, improve insulin sensitivity, and regulate fat metabolism, leading to lowered liver enzyme levels.
Consult a healthcare professional:
While research suggests potential benefits, it's important to discuss omega-3 supplementation with your doctor, especially if you have existing liver disease or are taking other medications.

My NAFLD has resolved. The ultrasound in November showed no problematic tissue at all. I was diagnosed with NAFLD based on an ultrasound in Feb 2021.

Since then I lost weight and gained muscle. Ozempic-->Mounjaro, went off Zyprexa, started exercising quite a lot: these were the changes. Also started eating more protein based on the RD's advice. I was so happy that the NAFLD went away. Apparently, it does happen often enough, both from weight loss itself and from the effects of weight loss medications.

Wonderful news, Moose! HUGS to those of you still needing biopsies. I too had NAFLD that resolved after a few weeks for no reason I could see. But it meant no liver biopsy, so good news. My liver enzymes have never been out of whack since.
