I was diagnosed as having BPD while I was in the hospital in May. I have been trying to get my therapist to do DBT with me but she has done one course with me and then hasn't done anything since. I also have several other disorders that I am being treated for... it is rather anoying to have to deal with all this but I struggle through each day. I am thinking about going to a book store and getting a DBT workbook so that I can do it on my own.

Good luck with that.

anothe book I would recommend is Get Me Out of Here, by Rachel Reiland.

i am familiar with DBT, but still new at it myself.

the group had disbanded.

I miss it.

It taught me a lot.

One thing it taught me was to act like an "observer" in the world. To look at things more analytically than emotionally, cause I a bpd am very emotional.

my therapist gave me one packet of papers ... without instructions on how to do them... then quit giving me the packets. I really want to do this but she only sees me once a month and never brings up DBT anymore. I wish I had more one on one with her... since there isn't a DBT group. I'm gonna have to let her know that I need help with the packets so that I know what to do on them. I will also look into that book that was recommended. thanks for the input.

First off, do you want to see your therapist more and your therapist is unable/unwilling? If that is the case I'd suggest a new therapist.

Also, have you brought up DBT in session recently? Maybe your therapist misunderstood?

To find a DBT group in your area do this:
1) Go to behavioraltech.org
2) Click "DBT Resources"
3) Click "Clinical Resource Directory"
4) (If asked click to accept term of use)
5) Select your state and click the search button

My therapist can only see me once a month at this time because of her case load... maybe in the future I will be able to see her more often... hopefully before I move to Mississippi next spring. I have brought DBT up in sessions but she keeps forgetting to give me the papers... and the instructions on how to do them.

I did look into where they would have DBT groups and I can't make weekly trips to and from the location they have it.
1) I don't have the money for gas and my car is a gas hog
2) I can't drive that far without panicking ... I can't drive in big cities

My therapist has the books to give me the worksheets out of... she is just forgetful about getting them to me. When she does give me them she doesn't give the instructions on how to do them.

hello Zarantha: I am not BPD but my wife is, tonight I found this link to an online course designed for those who have limited access to therapy. It is a course in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but I think it is related to DBT. Well I am not sure but anyhow you might want to check it out, there is online stuff and then homework that you do:

Let us know how it goes. I wish you good luck. YOur friend EG

I will most definitely look into the CBT site. it really does look interesting and could very well help me in the long run. Thanks for the info. Zara
