I am not all that clued up about browsers, hopefully somebody can fill me in.
I have just changed from Internet Explorer 6 to Firefox.
Firefox does not allow me to copy and paste images. Not even codes.
Any ideas on how I can do this?

Why did you switch browsers Sabrina?
Zuula , and Bing image browsers are also pretty good. I don't like Firefox.

Hi, Sabrina!

If you right-click on an image in Firefox, you should get a context-sensitive menu with a longer or shorter list of options, depending on the image and whether or not the image itself is used as a link. "Copy image" should be one option, "Properties" another. "Properties" will give the url of the image location and also of the link if one exists. Try playing with those and see how they work.

PS: I dual boot. Firefox is my default browser under Ubuntu Linux, Chrome under Windows XP.

I switched because PC no longer worked on Internet Explorer. Everything else was fine, but not PC. My Service Provider also mentioned that my internet banking was not secure on Internet Explorer.

So far I have been happy with Firefox except for this image thing.

Firefox and imagesRohag, I tried your suggestion but that didn't work either. Looks like I will just have to work with Internet Explorer when I want to post images.

I've been using Firefox 2 with Windows 98 SE for 4 years now and one of the things I like best about it is how easy it is to copy-paste images and image URLs. I use the right-click "context menu" as Rohag says, and it gives me the choice (among others) of copying the image itself or its URL to the Windows clipboard.

Could your problem be with Linux rather than with Firefox itself?
Thanks for this!

I love Firefox, and have no problems with the right-click context menu. My OS is Windows XP. I'm not sure why you're having problems.

Also, you can try selecting the image, going to the "Edit" menu and clicking on it, which should allow you a choice to Copy the image, and just put your cursor where you want to paste and go to the Edit menu again and click on "Paste."

I use firefox & have no problems with posting images either. I am on Windows xp.....changed over to firefox awhile ago....only thing I don't like about firefox is that I can be running & doing nothing & all of a sudden, firefox takes my cpu usage up to 100%.....I am dead in the water while it's stuck doing that......sometimes I have to end up shutting my whole computer down just to get control back.

did the Ctl/alt/delete to see what processes were running....that was when I saw the firefox at the 100%....strange.

I also pick up pictures from photobuket....easy to pick up the address of the image......however if you pick up more than just the part starting with the http://......., it won't show up if you use the image insert at the top of the posting.....When I pick up an image address that already starts out with the Firefox and images then I just past that directly into the message & that gives me the image. If you have to many of the controls, or the wrong ones, the image won't show up either.

Just a thought?.....found that while I was experimenting & trying to figure out how to post images.....many failures also while trying to figure out just the right combination.

Keep experimenting.......when you pick the properties off the right click....you have to pick up the whole "address" & then cut that & past it into the "insert image".

Know you will figure it out....it does work with firefox...just getting familiar with it is difficult

good luck,
Debbie

When I right click, I get all the options, I select "copy image" but when I try and paste, nothing happens. Not even the code from photobucket will paste. The image just doesn't appear. It is as if paste is broken. Don't know how else to explain.

(First of all, please allow me to apologize for my confusion -- it was Rohag, not Sabrina, who mentioned using Linux.)

Assuming for the moment that your system is something like mine -- there are two entirely different kinds of things you can be copy-pasting: the location (URL) of an image, or the image itself. URLs are text; images are, well, images.

If I right-click on an image, your avatar let's say, then click the "Copy Image Location" option, I end up with a text string on my clipboard: the URL of your avatar. If I paste that into a post, it looks like this: http://forums.psychcentral.com/image.php?u=8958&dateline=1246039416

If I right-click on the same image and this time click the "Copy Image" option, I end up with an actual image on my clipboard. If I try to paste it into this post, nothing happens; only text, not images, can go in a composer window and even the right-click menu shows the "Paste" selection as grayed and not available. If, however, I go to a program like Photoshop or Word that can handle images and try pasting there, I get a little picture of a chihuahua with glasses.

I can make the image appear in a post by copying its URL (the "Copy Image Location" option again) and pasting it into the post with "IMG" tags around it: Firefox and images

Left unparsed, the code for the above image looks like this:

Which of these do and don't work for you? By the way, on this system (Windows 98 SE) I have Clipboard Viewer available and can use it to see what's on my clipboard; it shows both text and images. If you have it (or can get it), I'd suggest using it a few times to help you figure out exactly what it is each time that you've copied and are trying to paste.
Thanks for this!

Well, with Explorer the image would paste, or the url for that matter. Now nothing at all pastes. Text won't paste either.

The image location pasted, but of course, that doesn't give me an image.

Sabrina, I don't use the "copy" ever

I right click the photo or the image
then select "properties".....(not copy)

Then I highlight & cut (ctrl c) the "location".....http://forums.psychcentral.com/image...ine=1246039416

then I select the button at the top of the reply that we use to "insert image"

Paste (ctrl v) the "location" address I cut, into that & hit ok (which wraps the location with Firefox and images & poof.....there is your pictureFirefox and images

If I pick up an image from photobucket....it's similar....but there are a few more steps.

You pick an image & select it with the left click

That takes you to a new screen with just the selected image. With the cursor over the image, there come up options over the image....pick the "share" option

That takes you to a new window where you select "get link code"

under the option IMG for bulletin boards & forums pick the first option the address to the left of the words "full size". highlight & cut (ctrl c) that address as it already has the Firefox and images wrapped around the address.

come back to the message your are posting the image to & just paste (ctrl v) that address where you want to display the image (no need to use the "insert image" since it is already set up in the right format to display the image)
Firefox and images

Hope this helps more than anything previously......this is how I have been doing most of my posting of images lately.

I love photobucket....have set up some albums there & cut & pasted some of my favorites....can set that up to easily get the address to paste & have the image come out......really fun now that I understand how to do it too....it was a trial & error time for we there for awhile....but now..."it's a piece of cake"Firefox and images

....."a walk in the park"Firefox and images

Have fun with your images

Ok, the one thing you need to look at is your operating system......as the cut & paste isn't a function of the internet server, but your operating system.....from what I understand.....in my case, it's windows xp that is the control C "cut" & control V "paste" functions. Is there something going on with your operating system....did it get corrupted somehow or something?.......

How do you know that your "cut" works if your "paste" doesn't....."paste" can only paste what cut has cut.....maybe neither is working. I know when I did the copy, I didn't need to cut to get it loaded into my notepad area....the "copy" does it automatically.......When you are just typing a reply or anything....are you able to "cut" & "paste" within a reply by highlighting words & doing the "cut" & "paste" of the highlighted words....if that works, then your cut & paste is working....& there is something else that is your problem......

Just trying to debug your problem......narrow down the possibilities.

Thanks Eskie

I am running Windows XP and there are no hassles or problems that I am aware of. Cutting / copying and pasting works with text within a reply so the function is working fine. It is simply when trying to copy an image that absolutely nothing happens when I try to paste it. I have tried Ctrl C & V (which is what I normally use) and I have tried from to copy and paste from the Edit toolbar as well. Simply nothing happens. I will just have to use Explorer (which is much slower) when I feel like using images.

When you try to "copy" an image, either with Ctrl-C or with Edit, what do you have selected/highlighted that Windows is supposed to copy? My right-click menu (in Windows 98) doesn't require an image to be selected; the "copy image" and "copy image location" choices it offers (when it offers them) refer to the image that I right-clicked on.

When I went to reply, I noticed you also had the following code in your post:

Nothing shows up for it in the post because it refers ("file:///C:...") to images on your hard drive that are accessible only from your computer. If you wanted us to be able to see those images you'd have to upload them to a PC album or to a picture service like Flickr. The links would then start with "http:" instead of "file:"
Thanks for this!

If you could give us a step by step scenario of what you are doing exactly....maybe we can figure out what the problem is......that would help us know exactly what you are doing so we can help figure out what the glitch is. I use firefox & windows xp....without any problems....sounds like there may be just some oops that is happening in the steps that are being done......hopefully we can help you out....no point in changing over to explorer for just picture things....I use picture things all the time & changing back & forth would drive me crazy....(as if I'm not crazy enough already...lol).

Hope we can help....fool Zero may be onto something....what it actually is that you are trying to use access to copy......start with step 1 & run through exactly what you are doing, what you select, & what keys you use to do everything in the process.....we will definitely help you get this figured out (if it kills me)......I hate when things like this happen to me & get frustrated until I resolve what is happening wrong.....just a little of my past firmware engineering mentality kicking in...lol.

Debbie

Sabrina, I think one of the first things you need to do is set up a reliable way of checking what you have on your Windows Clipboard at each moment -- that's where your Copys and Cuts are going and where your Pastes are coming from. The "Clipboard Viewer" of Windows 98 has supposedly been renamed "Clipbook Viewer" in XP and may not be available in all versions but if you have it (or can install it) I recommend at least trying it.

If you can't get hold of Clipbook Viewer then keeping a blank Microsoft Word "document" open in another window would probably be a good substitute. With Word 97 at least, I can paste either text or images into a document and it'll show me exactly what I have on the clipboard.
Thanks for this!

Eskie and Fool Zero, I really appreciate your help with this. I am feeling a little frustrated though as I don't know how else to explain that I have changed absolutely nothing except browsers and the Firefox doesn't paste an image. (It is probably copying but when I click paste, insert, CTRL V, whichever ........ nothing happens.) I am doing exactly as I used to with internet explorer.

1. Right click on image
2. Select copy image (explorer says copy, not copy image)
3. CTRL-V in message reply box

and voila - the image should be there. This always worked with explorer but nothing happens in firefox. Even in photobucket, where one pastes the code [IMG] etc etc. - that doesn't paste either.

Any text that I copy and paste within the message reply box, pastes just fine.

If I copy image location - that pastes too - but it isn't the image, so what's the use.

Am I getting clearer?

At the end of the day, I can't see that there is anything wrong with my computer. It still works in explorer, just not firefox. No other changes were made.

PS - those codes you found in my post Fool Zero, sorry - don't know how it got there. It might have been my experimenting to see if I could get an image pasted.

No need to apologize; without them, we might not have figured out that at least some of the images you were working with were local files, not online.

Part of that sounds like a difference in features between IE and Firefox. I won't bother trying it with the ancient Internet Explorer I have but from your description, IE may actually be handling images and image links differently from Firefox.

If instead of the above you do (in Firefox)...
1. Right click on image
2. In the resulting menu, left-click on copy image location
3. CTRL-V in message reply box
... do you end up with a text string (either http://... or file:///...) in the message reply box? It sounds like you do:
Quote:

Plenty of use! If you have that much, it's a link to the image and the next step is to take it the rest of the way to turn it into an actual image.

You're composing your reply in "Go Advanced" mode, I hope, so that you have access to a bunch of controls above the box. With the "image location" copied as above, put the cursor in the message reply box where you want your image. Click on the Firefox and images (Insert Image) control above the box. By the way, are you in Text or WYSIWYG mode? You can toggle between them with the Firefox and images (Switch Editor Mode) control at the upper right above the smilies. In text mode you should see a string like

or in WYSIWYG mode, an image. Try that, and report back.
Thanks for this!

Lookie here - I got this from copying image location and then using the insert image icon, as you suggested. (I didn't even know why the icon was there as I never had to use it.)

Now I am going to try an image from a graphics site .........

Firefox and images

And it worked!!!

To everyone who contributed - thank you - to Eskie and Fool Zero - thank you so much for your time, support and consideration.
