I do the same thing everyday and expect different results. But the thing is i DONT have the energy or willpower to change things or venture out of my comfort zone. So i do the same thing everyday. Perhaps i truly dont want to change?! But i'm damn sure not happy the way im living... terrible situation.

perhaps you are too depressed to do things differently. but you know what the problem is and how to fix it. do things differently. abraham lincoln said "when i do good, i feel good" so are there small things you can do within your comfort zone that can make you feel good. watch some comedies and really pay attention to yourself enjoying the laughter. do something you are good at and feel the pride in yourself. anything that would make you feel good and then really take the pleasure in the moment of feeling good about it.

Take one thing out of your day and change it everyday. Even if its something simple as sitting outside. Take a five min walk.... Look at the stars for 3 mins before you sleep.............. just one thing every day

I understand, I also have a tough tie doing anything new and stay in bed a lot actually. I do have some changes, or try something new on occasion, but it never brings relief or pleasure - so not motivating at all to try something new.

Someone has suggested taking one small area and limiting your work for just one day
on that area alone. The next day choose another small area and work on that alone.
Before you know it, you've covered far more than you thought you could. And feeling
tone increases.

Also, go to http://HazeldonFoundation.org and look at "Thought for the Day". Each day
a new thought is posted that is positive and may give you an incentive to try for a short
time to act on something suggested. I think they have great ideas and love that foundation's
publications.

Also try http://InTouchDaily.com for daily devotionals that are sure to make you think about
how much you are loved and cared for.

Good stuff for replacing negative thoughts in our brains. (Often, we need to have them all
swept from our minds and new concepts congealed in the brain.) I routinely spend
at least 1/2 hour at bedtime practicing sweeping the brain's ideas that are negative out
visualizing a broom just working away in the corners and crevices of every little crack until
I feel rested and sleepy. (We have to get rid of stress daily, you know, to keep acid buildup
very low for better feeling tone.)

Take care and best wishes.

That's an excellent description of depression. The desire to change is present, imagining change may be possible, but the psychological paths to actual change are blocked.

My ability to "force" myself to do things died long ago. Incremental change can happen, but it happens mysteriously -- short bursts of uncontrolled energy come out of nowhere. Occasionally those bursts of energy coincide with short periods of mental focus. When that happens I do something. I have not found a way to control this dynamic.

It's very much the same thing for me. I thought that I was the only one that felt that way. I do things so routine that I work like clockwork. I do things precisely at the same time, right up to the minute. And it keeps going on and on that way.

I expect things to change myself. I'm hoping for change but I know with what I am doing, it will not. There are some things that I really want to change. But I feel like it can't happen as long as I keep going that way.

On the weekends I feel very lonely. But I can't seem to motivate myself to research for things going in my area that could be of interest to me. In the past I did that a lot and it all didn't work out anyways. So when I keep myself busy doing what I do on the weekends, I'm by myself and then I feel like I'm not missing much. But at the same time, I feel like life is passing me by. Makes sense?

But I keep thinking that something will change, even if I don't use any of my efforts to make it change. It has happened before.
Thanks for this!

This makes a lot of sense to me. On my days off it's the same thing: sleep in, run errands, and then sit in front of the computer and either chat online or watch movies. I don't ever go out anymore. I don't really have many people to go out with, but there is always Meetup.com, where I could be looking for things to do. In the past I used to say that meetups were going on on days I was working, but there are two events going on tonight which I'm just not motivated enough to attend. It's not even that I'm too shy to attend them--I know people going. I'm just not motivated anymore to get up and get out of my "zone." To be fair, part of it is that I work 40+ hours a week, and I'm just tired and want to relax on my days off, but still...
