Ok, I'm mainly posting because I'm going on the thirs night of absolutly no sleep. I hate not sleeping. I'm so tired snd the less sleep the worse I feel. Plus I'm just having one of those really crummy weeks everyone getting on my case about anything they can possibly think of. I'm too tired to concentrate on attempting to study or run around in circles in my room, but I can't sleep. Anyone have any ideas for getting some sleep, or anyone up for a late night chat?

I am one of many "kings of sleep problems" here. I know how frustrating it is. I am doing a little better currently. It is not only frustrating but also effects all other aspects of our lives.

What is going on when you try to sleep? Is your mind racing and thoughts keeping you awake? Could one of your meds be causing you to not sleep well? Just seemingly straight insomnia?

It may be worth mentioning it to your doctor if it keeps up. If it is a med problem they may be able to make an adjustment (that has largely been my problem) or even switch you to something more condusive to sleep. At some point it may also be appropriate to look into a prescription strictly for sleeping, as long as you keep in touch with the doctor and don't come to rely on the sleep aid I think that's fine.

I've been up and down most nights, If i see you here I'll certianly join in a late chat!

Hope things improve. Good luck.

hi chippie.. yeah I have big sleep problems... I have to use Ambien to help, but it doesn't work within 10 minutes for me like it advertises... if I've had any activity prior to taking it, it could take 4 more hours to work... but if I don't take it, I don't sleep.

Also, because my mind needs to quiet, I use a CD that is specially made for changing brain wave activity... and I play that, repeatedly a few time on automatic... and I'm gone. I have to THINK about listening to the sounds. If I "ignore" it and keep working in my head on problems... then it's not much help.

So even if you don't have a tape, try and think only about calming, or a particular song you like.

Also, for some ppl, making a list of items that you need to remember for the next day, helps to clear the mind of concerns... by writing them down we give ourselves "permission" to not dwell on them in our heads!

Sleep is really, really important Chippie, please find a doctor who will help you find a solution! Good wishes.

things that helped me chippie when I could sleep, was Warm milk, reading, relaxtion tecniques, writing to purge whatever thoughts are keeping me awake.. that's about it. The medication i'm on now helps me sleep, but before that that is what i did.

IF it is really becoming a problem i'd likely talk to my doctor.

Do you think alot before bed If so then the best thing to do is let it out some way...hope this helps. No sleep

Where did you find the CD...the one that changes brain waves? How long is it? and how long does it take you to go to sleep (approximately)

Thanks

Chippie,
I understand the no sleep thing. I go for weeks at a time sleeping for less then three hours a night. I know that for me it is stress related. My mind just races when I lay down, about all the things I need to do or how I wasted my day away not accomplishing what I wanted to.
The best advice I can give is that if you can not sleep then don't. I know that sounds stupid but the longer you lay in bed and wish that you could be sleeping the more undue stress you are putting onto yourself. Just get up....drink some warm milk...watch some TV...just relax.
It is better then staring at the ceiling.

Stay strong,
Jessica

Thanks everyone, it's more insomnia I guess. It starts with not being able to sleep, then the thoughts start coming in. I'm not on any meds and really want to use it as a last resort, I had problems with sleeping pills before a long time ago. I found some lavender and I have a journal so I'll try those. Thanks again, that and some "sweet dreams" tea maybe. Goonight everyone, I hope!
